If you’ve ever seen dogs herding sheep in real life, then you know just how smart they are. Even if your only exposure to this was from the movie Babe, you get the idea, minus the animals talking like humans, of course. The bottom line is that these pups are born to herd and they do a remarkable job.
Another year of hard work
Just as he’d done for many years, one sheepdog was ready and eager to start another season of herding. With tons of experience, both he and his owner expected everything to go smoothly. But you know how it is … there’s always one.
The showdown
After heading out to the field, this pup immediately went to work. All the sheep followed his direction…except one. This young sheep didn’t feel like obeying the rules.
Not budging
In a video uploaded by the dog’s owner, which has already garnered more than 143,000 plus views, this sweet pooch shows just how patient he is. In the background, you can see all the other sheep doing, well, sheep things. But for whatever reason, this one decided to challenge the sheepdog.
Asserting authority …
… not the dog but the sheep. Not far into the video, this little wooly creature dared to challenge the pup. It came toward him as if to say, “I’m the boss here, not you.”
Time to take control
Initially, the sheepdog gets into a crouching position. To most people, this probably looks like a submissive pose. But this handsome pup knew exactly what he was doing as he then stood upright.
Still not backing down
At this point, you can’t help but laugh. This dog takes his job seriously. But this sheep doesn’t care or perhaps is too young and dumb to realize its mistake.
Something needs to change
Suddenly, the dog lowers his body to the ground. That’s when the sheep puts its head down as if following his lead. But this is when you notice this pup has his ears back, which shows that he’s getting a little bit tired of the sheep’s game.
You can feel the tension
Now, the dog is almost nose-to-nose with the naughty sheep. Not only does he have his ears back but also, he’s tucked his tail. All we can say is that’s one brazen little lamb.
No more joking around
It’s a good thing this isn’t an old Western. You’d expect to see a gunfight. This smart dog knows what he needs to do and he isn’t afraid to put his plan into action.
Waving the white flag
Yep, as the dog continues to put pressure on the sheep, it finally surrenders. Methodically, he gets the little critter to back up where it belongs. Perhaps the funniest thing … there’s an adult sheep now standing near, which makes you wonder if that’s the mom.
At the end of the video, several of the larger sheep are looking at the dog. After all, he’s always been so laid back. But on this day, the young sheep tried his patience yet he still won the battle.
