When it comes to dogs, they’re more like humans than we think. Sometimes, they’re also a lot smarter. Especially a mama dog with a puppy that needs help. One Reddit user, SkilloDeX, shared a touching video of an encounter between a stray dog and humans.
The individual was driving around a city in Iran with his cousin when something caught his attention. Off to the side was a stray dog. What he noticed most was how she was standing close to the road, barking profusely. It was as though she was trying to tell them something…but what?
Even dogs that are fearful of humans know when they need help.
Deciding to find out what all the commotion was about, the two men exited their vehicle and walked toward the mama dog. Without hesitation, she turned around and headed in a different direction. So, the men followed. There, they discovered a bundle of puppies in the back of an alley.
It quickly became evident this wasn’t just any ordinary litter of pups.
As the men approached, they saw that one of the tiny puppies had its head stuck tightly in a plastic jar. Although they were there to help, the pup was so scared, it let out a squeal. Yet somehow, the mother dog remained calm. It was like she knew they weren’t going to do any harm to her babies.
Instead, one of the men gave the puppy a few minutes to calm down before trying to remove the container.
From the sideline, the mama dog watched patiently as he gently tugged on the jar. At first, it wouldn’t budge. But determined not to leave without removing it, he kept trying. Finally, he was able to pull it off the pup’s head.
What happened next was even more incredible.
Rather than run away in fear, the entire litter came bounding over to the men. They all wagged their tails and willingly accepted loving pets. In their minds, getting the container off their sibling’s head was a time for celebration.
Even the stray mama reacted in a way the men didn’t expect.
Because she was a stray, they weren’t sure if she would become aggressive. But she didn’t. While she didn’t come near them, she did let out a couple of soft barks. They believe she was thanking them for helping her little one out of a mess.
Dog life in Iran is really tough.
For dogs in this country, life isn’t always pleasant. Many of them spend their lives on the streets, finding food and shelter wherever they can. The men wanted to take all the dogs with them but that wasn’t an option. However, after posting the video, which went viral, a lot of people gave them kudos for taking the time to help a mama dog and her baby.
One person wrote, “[You] did good!” Another person said, “Keep on making the world a better place by being you.” This isn’t the first time humans have helped dogs in need and it definitely won’t be the last. Perhaps this is a great reminder to all of us that simple gestures matter.
