In February of 2020, the Turner family was driving down Military Trail near the Boca Raton Canal when 9-year-old Timmy. spotted a car floating in the river and alerted his father. Being the quick thinker that he is, 33-year-old Shawn immediately pulled over and jumped into action.
He removed his sweat pants before diving into the water and swimming up to the car, what he found inside horrified him and he knew there wasn’t much time. He saw 34-year-old, Molly Pedrone, unconscious in her car after suffering a seizure and still buckled into the seat belt and yelled:
“She’s out cold!”
You can hear people panicking in the background as Shawn rolled down the window of her sinking car and lunges in to save her
At that time, Adam Gunn also dove in and began swimming out to help but the car was sinking fast and was almost fully submerged. You can hear Shawn’s children panicking in the background as the car begins to sink with him still inside.
“Dad jump out! Dad get out!” Yells Shawn’s son.
That’s when Shawn reappears after pushing Molly into Adam’s arms, but she’s still stuck on the seat belt so he yells for a knife
People scramble to get Shawn a knife so he can cut Molly out of her seat belt, and just in the nic-of-time, Shawn cuts her out swimming her back to shore with Adam while she’s still unconscious.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen, or how fast it would happen. I just reacted,” Shawn said of the harrowing experience, he added: “I was in go mode, somebody had to act.”
Molly began regaining consciousness when they got her back to shore, still delirious from the seizure
Molly began having seizures 14-years ago, but doctors couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was causing them. The extremely high cost of the medication she needed, forced her to wean off of her medicine, and without it seizures were immanent.
“Usually I have enough sense to talk myself through it and go, ‘OK, it’s coming, try and lie down, try and let somebody know.’ But there was no warning. It was just lights out like somebody just shut the switch off.” Molly said of the accident.
Molly had no recollection of the accident, but later got to meet Shawn and was internally grateful for him saving her life
Inside Edition set up a meeting for Molly and Shawn, where they were able to have a heartwarming reunion and she had a chance to thank him for saving her.
