We often take little acts of kindness for granted.

It might be just helping someone with their bags, opening the door for someone, buying a person a cup of coffee or a meal, or just listening to someone pour out their story.

These genuine and spontaneous connections result in heartwarming encounters that fill us with hope and a sense of community. That no matter what any of us are going through, there will always be people around to help you in your toughest moments.

Such a story was posted by Brenda Collins on her Facebook account.

She and her friend Juanita Jones were out for breakfast. Jones just recently lost her husband Ross after a valiant battle against an illness. But alas, despite his efforts, he succumbed to the disease. When Collins asked Jones how she had really been feeling lately, the widow began to weep.

“As I asked Juanita how she had really been going, she immediately began to weep as she told me all the things she missed about her wonderful husband of 54 years,” Collins said in the post.

To let Jones know that she’s not alone and she’s being listened to, Collins placed Jones’ hand in hers as they both cried. Unbeknownst to them, a stranger saw how both of them were struck with grief and decided to do something about it.

What the stranger did next surprised not only Collins but Jones as well.

“All of a sudden, a lady approached our table and said something along the lines of, ‘Hi, I’m sorry to intrude. I don’t know you but I was just driving past and saw you crying so I wanted to buy you these flowers to bring a smile to your face.” Collins narrated further.

Jones broke down as she received a gorgeous bouquet of pink flowers. It was a poignant reminder that there are people who are aware of the pain of others and will not hesitate to make them feel better even in the littlest ways.

Collins then shared with the stranger the cause of Jones’ sadness. In response, the stranger wrapped her arms around Jones and hugged her tightly.

In the middle of her sobs, Juanita asked for the stranger’s name. She introduced herself as Kylie.

She started out as a random stranger, but turned wonderful memory for Jones.

Collins shared that they spent the rest of their time together exchanging stories of the simple acts of kindness they received through the years. She ends her post with a reminder that we can all live by.

“If you see a need, and are in a position to do so, go out of your way to pay for the item someone can’t, help someone who is struggling and clearly needs assistance, maybe get the bill for the couple beside you,” she said in her post, “Or buy that grieving person a bunch of flowers. You just never know the lasting impact a simple gesture could have on someone for the rest of their life. In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

They estimated that the flowers may have cost Kylie around $40 but they all knew the real value of that gorgeous bouquet, and how it made someone feel loved and heard.
