It’s easy to overlook just how much it takes to be a mom. Ever since you were little, way before your first memory took place, your mom was there making sure all your needs were met and that you were always safe and happy. In fact, doting, loving moms readily embrace their roles as early as the first weeks of pregnancy. They do more than just eat right, get enough sleep, and exercise if permitted. They’ll shop, journal, fix up the baby’s room, and even read to the baby in the womb or listen to soothing, classical music for the little one’s development.
Because the minute a woman enters motherhood, something in her changes completely. And we’re not just talking about the physical aspects.
That said, you can imagine just how much a mother sacrifices for her children throughout her lifetime.
Yes, she sacrifices the lifestyle she once enjoyed as a single woman, and she also comes to terms with the fact that her body will never be the same. She also sacrifices sleep, and sometimes things like having everything done on schedule, go-to hobbies, etcetera. For a period in her life, everything she once did for herself is now paused.
But a rebirth takes place as she becomes even more wonderful as a person. A force to be reckoned with.
She’ll do what it takes to support her family, even if it means having to be away for them for months.
And speaking of force, you’ll love the surprise 2nd Lt. Cherie Thompson cooked up for her daughter.
The dedicated mom made quite a sacrifice as she went above and beyond to make a commitment to the armed forces.
This meant she had to undergo a seven-month training period in Texas.
While technology now makes it easier for families separated by distance to keep in touch, nothing compares to being physically close and sharing beautiful moments together.
That’s why Cherie came up with an amazing idea to make her daughter, Nevaeh’s day.
With the help of supportive staff from Nevaeh’s school, the surprise was a success.
The unknowing student thought she was being interviewed for a district video on classroom technology. So she started readily answering the interviewer’s questions, clueless that something big was about to happen in a matter of minutes.
Nevaeh didn’t suspect a thing, even when some of the questions were about her mom and how long the training period was.
Then suddenly, the door opened and in walked Cherie, still in uniform, with a bouquet of red roses in hand.
When Nevaeh finally turned around to see who entered, she immediately gasped, “Mom!” and ran straight to her mother’s arms.
That’s when the floodgates opened. Both Nevaeh and Cherie couldn’t stop their tears from falling as they held each other in a tight embrace. Emotions were definitely high that day as the love between the two filled the room. Viewers couldn’t help but comment on how touching it all was and how it brought them to tears as well.
“‘I miss you so much’… And now I’m crying. This is so sweet. That baby misses her mom.”
Imagine being separated from a parent for seven months and finally seeing them again. Thankfully, this precious moment was captured perfectly on video, thanks to the support of Nevaeh’s teachers in Liberty Middle School.
