You are never too young to be a hero! Growing up, we all wanted to be some type of superhero (I was convinced I was Spiderman), but as we get older, that sort of fades away. What we fail to realize is that we all have the chance to be a hero each day, even it if doesn’t involve shooting webs out of our hands.

For three boys in Scottsdale, Arizona, the superhero moment of a lifetime was so incredible that even Spiderman himself would be proud.

Johnny Ward, Luca Montemore, and Jacob McDonald all thought it was a regular day at school this past October. Little did they know things were about to get crazy. The three boys have been friends for a long time, growing up near each other and playing baseball on the same team. That connection may have played a role in their quick thinking on the bus later that day.

On the way home from school that day, the three boys became concerned when their bus driver, Krystal Hughes, pulled over.

It wasn’t normal for the woman to pull over, and the three boys decided to go and ask if everything was ok. As they got closer, they noticed that she was sweating and clearly wasn’t alright. From the looks of it, she was having trouble breathing, too.

“I was like, ‘Do you want me to call 911? Are you OK?’” said Montemore. “She shook her head no, that she wasn’t OK. I asked her, ‘Should I call 911?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah,’ so I called 911.” – KOLD13

Getting on the phone with the paramedics, they explained what was going on.

Splitting tasks up, they got to work getting the paramedics to where they were. Montemore took on the role of speaking to the 911 operator while McDonald was using his iPhone to get his exact location. Using his GPS, he was able to tell Montemore and the operator exactly where they were.

While the other two boys were talking to authorities, Johnny Ward had a different task.

Johnny was asked by the bus driver to use her phone and call her mom. Incredibly, she was asking Ward to tell her mother that if things didn’t go as planned, she wanted her to know that she loved her.

“The bus driver told me to call her mom on her personal cell phone and tell her if she didn’t survive, that she loved her,” Ward told AZ Family. “That was kind of emotional for me.”

Thankfully, with the quick thinking of the boys, the paramedics were out within minutes and the bus driver was able to get the help she needed.

Thankfully, the boys were able to save the woman and make that final call unnecessary. What’s more, the Scottsdale School District decided to hold a ceremony in their honor for their quick thinking and brave attitudes.

“I overheard one of the boys saying it was just the right thing to do, and they took action when it was needed,” said Nick Noonen, principal of Cocopah Middle School. “To say they jumped into a scary situation is quite an understatement.” – KOLD13

Turns out, a pinched nerve in Hughes’ neck had been the cause of her numbness. But during the incident, she feared she was experiencing a heart attack or stroke. She is eternally grateful to the students for helping her during the very scary time.

Hughes told AZ Family:

“I didn’t know what was going on, I really didn’t. I’m thankful for the kids, really I am.”

All in all, it seems like a story that even Spiderman would explain as heroic!
