Everyone knows who Ellen DeGeneres is. Not only is she extremely funny but she’s also kind and caring. In fact, on her show, “Ellen,” she has a reputation for giving away gifts. Especially during the holidays, she goes all out. And we’re not talking about small items here.
Ellen starts out with a formal introduction.
She welcomes a single dad and his daughters to the show. Mario, Eden, and Monica make up the Lazo family. She then asks him what he thought when one of her show’s producers showed up at his home with a vehicle revving its engine. He responds, “We were not expecting that at all. I remember we were inside the house and then we heard that car outside.”
That’s when he spots a bright red automobile.
In true Ellen fashion, one of the show’s producers walks up to Mario’s home holding a giant teddy bear while being followed by a beautiful red car. But even more surprising was the car was full of presents. Yes, this was a gift to the Lazo family from Ellen.
There was a special reason Ellen chose this family.
As it so happens, Mario’s wife, Jennifer, loved to watch the Ellen show. Sadly, she died of cancer while still way too young. As Mario explained, “When she wanted to laugh when going through the cancer situation, she’d turn on your show, and the scary Halloween and all that stuff.”
As expected, Ellen has a snarky but hilarious response.
She promised she wasn’t going to scare them today. She then added, “Not today. We thought that’s not a right time for that.” It’s easy to see why Jennifer turned to Ellen to lift her spirits during a very dark period of her life. Ellen then had a big photo of Jennifer appear on two screens for the audience to see. He said he seldom saw her down…instead, she would walk into a room and light it up.
A car and presents…but Ellen hadn’t finished giving yet.
It turns out that both of the daughters are big Taylor Swift fans. Well, you probably guessed it…Taylor sent a video inviting them to be her guests at one of her shows. And they would have the chance to meet her backstage. But wait…that’s when Ellen drops a bombshell.
The final act of kindness.
She tells Mario to open a box he’s been holding on his lap the entire time. After opening a box, inside a box, inside a box, Ellen pulls out a piece of paper. On it, she shows him that she’s paying off his $300,000 mortgage. At that point, the tears begin to flow.
There’s no question that Ellen changed the Lazo family’s life, making it easier for them to deal with a tragic situation. Now, Mario will be able to raise his daughters without a lot of stress.
