He doesn’t need much in life. He’s got everything he needs in his life.
But one thing Robert Turner needs all the time is his car, a 1997 Saturn sedan. He suffers from severe Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and he needs his car to go to his weekly therapy and doctor’s appointment.
His car was stolen right from his apartment parking lot.
“That’s our whole life, I mean, that’s how we get around,” Robert told News 5 Cleveland. “It’s hard to believe that people, at this day and age, would do that to people.”
But this story shows that even though there are unbelievable people who do bad things, there are also unbelievable people who do great things.
There was one person who watched this who would change Robert’s life. His name is Doug.
Doug saw the news piece on Robert and was moved into action. He called up Robert to help.
“It’s terrible that these things happen,” Doug said. “If you see somebody in need then do something about it, if you can do something about it.”
And Doug can do something about it.
He had a car that he was planning to give to someone in need. He had previously given it to a family member but, due to a private reason, the car is with him again.
He didn’t know who he was going to give it to, just as long as it was a person who really needs it. And after he found out about Robert’s predicament, he knew he found that person.
That’s when Doug gave him a call to tell him the good news.
“He was just so grateful, you know? I said ‘You know what? This is what we are supposed to do. Don’t worry about it,'” Doug recalled.
And Robert was truly overwhelmed by this generous act of kindness.
“It was hard to describe, honestly, the way everything has been, and then somebody actually doing something like that it was just unbelievable,” Robert said. “We went to the shop. He filled it up with gas and he paid for all the transfers, the license, and new titles for me.”
But it didn’t stop there.
Robert got a call from the Canton Police Department, which said they found his car.
Unfortunately, the thieves trashed the car and the police have rendered it non-drivable. The thieves also ran off before they could catch them.
It’s now in the repair shop, where they’re waiting for the final estimate on how much it’ll cost to get it back on the road again.
In the meantime, Robert is just looking for ways to pay it forward. He wants to find ways to give back to him and help someone in need.
“We are just so thankful,” Robert said. “I believe that people are good, overall, and this just shows that is true.”
It’s good to know that, despite all the cruel things happening in the world, there are still a lot of kindness and good acts going around.
