Robin Cooper has been a security guard in Greece, NY, schools for more than five years. Before that, she used to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant and as a daycare teacher.

Over the years, she has done lots of training, and the most important skill she developed was how to save a choking person’s life by performing the Heimlich maneuver.
This particular skill had never been needed, thankfully, until last year, when she saved a young man’s life thanks to the first aid training she has had over the years.

Cooper explained in an interview with USA Today that working in the school has made her the go-to person for students when they need any kind of help.
“Oh, these kids, they love me,” she said at the time. “I’m the Pied Piper, you know? I’m that big sister, I’m grandma, nana […] I’m here for them.”

The security guard has built a strong bond with the students of the school over the years, and they know they can turn to her for whatever they need- whether that’s a shoulder to cry on or, in this case, a guardian angel.
You see, during lunchtime, a boy was having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, when he started choking on a bite of his sandwich.
The boy knew right away that something was very wrong and that he needed help.

The person he turned to was no other than Robin Cooper, who at the time of the incident was sitting at a table opposite his.
The boy ran to the guard and through gestures he made her understand that he needed help and that it was an emergency.

“Actually, at first I got startled,” Cooper told Spectrum News 1. “And then I was like, oh shoot, no. He’s choking. His face is red.”
The woman went into motion right away.
She went right behind him, put her arms in the right place, and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Soon, the bite came up into the boy’s cheek, and he was just fine. In fact, he returned to his table and finished his lunch.

Cooper explains that she’s not a hero. She did nothing but her job. She did what she was supposed to do.
But when she went home that day, she just broke down, she says.
She told USA TODAY:
“I broke because I was like ‘Oh, father, thank you! You gave me that chance to give that parent back their child’, you know?”

Indeed, no one knows what could have happened if Cooper hadn’t been in the right place at the right time.
The woman saved the kid’s life and we are sure his parents will be forever grateful to her for this.
Indeed, first aid is something we should all know, and attending such classes could save someone’s life at some point.
