We all know that aloha is a greeting in Hawaiian. But, besides that, it’s also used to characterize deeds of love and fellowship that are common among Hawaiians.

And people on the island know very well that this type of kindness is a gift that they try to offer with every opportunity.

Just like what a local security guard did not so long ago, when he helped a young mother. The local community appreciated his act of kindness so much that they did their best to return the aloha.

About a year ago, a young mother who lives in Hawaii with her family went to the grocery store with her son. She put her wallet in the cart, but when she was leaving the store she simply forgot about it.

She carefully put her son and the groceries in the car, but she completely forgot about the wallet, which she left in the cart.

“On Saturday my wife left her wallet in the shopping cart of Foodland in Kahului by the mall. After loading the baby and groceries into the car, she hadn’t even noticed it was gone,” her husband Gray Reef Marino wrote in a Facebook post.

The woman didn’t even notice that her wallet was missing. Later on that same day, a man knocked on the family’s door. It was the store’s security guard.

“Several hours later we had a knock on our home door. It was the security guard from Foodland. He had found the wallet, and after seeing that we didn’t come back for it,” Marino narrated.

The most impressive thing of all was that the man had ridden his bike to the family’s house. When he found their address in the wallet, he decided to ride to their house to return it.

“He got on his bicycle and he pedaled miles to Waiehu where we lived, getting the address from her ID. He literally rode his bicycle to return her wallet. Completely full of everything important to her including cash. Nothing was so much as moved.”

The man, who identified himself as Aina Jose, made such a good impression on the couple that they wanted to return his good deed.

They decided to buy him a used car, hoping that they would get some help from the local community, too.

A friend of the couple’s also started a GoFundMe to make sure there would be enough money raised for the purchase of the gift.

Although the initial goal was $5,000, the internet community donated $25,000!

Thanks to their donations, the Marinos were able to buy a car for him, and also help him invest the rest of the money in order to have some savings for the future.

“Thank you everyone for helping make this dream a reality. Please keep this positivity, sense of community, spirit of aloha, and love for our neighbors going!” they wrote, thanking those who donated for the good cause.

Jose was astonished at the surprise. One thing is for sure- he was totally worth it!
