Earlier this month, the Call family drove from their St. Anthony home to Rexburg for Shianne to pick up her dad’s truck.
When she got the truck, she hopped in it, along with her 8-year-old son, Beckett, and were driving home, while her husband, Aaron, was following them in another car.
However, at some point, their trip took an unexpected turn. Mother and son were involved in a terrible accident.
“It was snowing and cold. She went over a bridge on Highway 20 by the golf course. I am guessing it was black ice and the truck started to fishtail. She tried to correct it and it started flipping. She was ejected from the truck,” Aaron told East Idaho News.
Shianne was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, while Beckett had to be flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah because of how bad his injuries were.

Both mother and son had multiple injuries including broken ribs and punctured lungs, but thankfully, their condition has been stable.
A few days ago, Shianne was successfully taken off of a ventilator, while Beckett was to be extubated a few days ago.
Still, as Aaron explained, there is a long road ahead of them, and he will need to be next to them both to support and help them recover as soon as possible.
For the time being, he is remaining with his wife in EIRMC most of the time, while relatives are by Beckett’s side in the hospital.
Of course, given the circumstances, Aaron has had to stop working for a while, until his beloved wife and son get better, which would soon make them struggle financially.
However, they will not have to face any financial difficulties because the East Idaho Secret Santa is there for them.
The unknown person who every year spends $1 million to help deserving people in the community who need financial support, decided to surprise Aaron with many presents for an early “Merry Christmas”.
So, the East Idaho News team, or Secret Santa’s helpers, went over to EIRMC, where Shianne is recovering, to surprise her husband.
The reporter first met Aaron and asked about any health updates for Shianne and Beckett. As the man explained, his wife is in a better condition, she is awake, and she seems to be getting better.
His son was still intubated at the time, but he was doing well and doctors were planning to extubate him that very day.
The team went on to explain they were sent there by Secret Santa and gave Aaron his gifts. $3k in gas cards, $3k in grocery cards, $3k to cover the family’s home’s gas expenses to make sure their home will be warm this- and maybe even next- winter.
Also, Secret Santa made sure to pay their rent for the entire year.
All of this definitely took a burden off of Aaron’s shoulders and it will for sure help the family as two of its members will be recovering over the next months.
Aaron was shocked when he found out about all the presents they were receiving, and tears welled up in his eyes as he was trying to realize what was going on.
Let’s hope the family of three will soon be back home together.
