When it comes to work, some people are more dedicated than others. On rare occasions, you meet or hear about an individual who goes above and beyond not to just perform their duties well but to also make sure they arrive at work on time.

A perfect description

One story circulating the internet is about a man named Robert Reed who fits that description to a tee. Working as a janitor for an elementary school in Tennessee, this gentleman loves what he does. And with an incredible personality and zest for life, teachers, parents, kids, and people throughout the community, love him right back.

Dedicated to a fault

But here’s the deal … for Robert to get to work, he has to walk for miles every morning and evening. You see, he doesn’t own a vehicle. Dedicated to his job and never wanting to let anyone down, he makes the daily trek without ever complaining.

People noticed

Although Robert never discussed his situation with anyone, people at the school where he worked noticed. Even other members of the community saw how hard it was for him to get to his job and then back home again. That’s when several people hatched a plan.

Pulling together

Several individuals came up with a brilliant idea. They’d find a way to get enough money so that Robert could buy a car. But at this point, he had no idea that something wonderful was about to happen.

Revealing the secret

Calling Robert into the office, a school representative explained to him that the community started a GoFund Me campaign for him. While she talks, you can see the confusion on his face. But remaining quiet, she goes on to say they wanted to help him because they knew he had to walk for miles every day to get to work.

A priceless reaction

The very second that he heard the words, “We raised $7,000 for you,” he literally dropped to his knees and threw his arms around the woman. He couldn’t hold back tears. Robert was beyond disbelief that people would do this for him, a janitor.

He couldn’t stop crying

His hard days are over

At 60 years old, his daily walk had started to take a toll on Robert. Now, with money to spend, he could finally get a vehicle. And that’s exactly what he did … he bought a truck.

“You deserve it.”

Those are the words the woman said to Robert and she’s right, he did deserve this and more. While interviewing him, he stressed that he works to provide a clean and sanitary school for the kids. Even after receiving such great news, his mind was still on his job.

A job well done

Robert was thrilled and humbled at the same time. After learning the good news, he had hugs for everyone who was there. This just goes to show that you never know who’s paying attention to what you do. And when you do something good, there’s a chance you’ll be rewarded.
