How much time do we spend in school?

Before, we used to think of it as tiring or even too much. We would rather go home and rest or play video games.

When the pandemic became our reality, we began to miss school and the people we often see inside our second home.

This thought brought back a viral story that happened eight years ago.

Ricky Spaulding is a school janitor for Anderson County High School.

He has been working for this school for many years now. He loves the school, and everyone in this school loves him too.

Spaulding went to this high school and worked for the golf team. His wife, Lisa, is also an employee of the school. She’s been with them as a secretary for the educational institution.

Whenever there’s a mess, there’s only one name to call – Mr. Spaulding.

They know how hardworking Spaulding is, and everyone knows him. He would immediately tend to anyone’s request and makes sure that he does his job with a smile.

Ricky and Lisa have three sons named Jacob, Jordan, and the youngest, Jaron.

Jacob already has two daughters and one son with his wife, Tracy Lynn. Jordan and his wife, Lena, also welcomed their first-born daughter named Addison.

However, Ricky and Lisa had not seen Jacob for a while.

At that time, Jacob was in the Navy, and he was designated in Italy for three long years. Even though his parents wanted so badly to see him, it wasn’t easy.

The ten-hour flight from America to Italy wasn’t cheap.

When Jacob’s second daughter arrived, Ricky and Lisa were not able to visit them. Back in 2014, little Harper was already two months old.

The proud grandparents were sad because they missed their son, Jacob, and they wanted to see their grandchild too.

When the school’s staff found out about the family’s problem, they wanted to help out.

They gathered and had a meeting, and they were able to create a fun plan. For them to complete the surprise project for Spaulding, they had to know if the pupils were up to it as well.

They were not disappointed because almost 1,200 pupils pledged their help. On the school’s final day of that school year, the school held a pep rally.

The event was pretty typical, but then the host requested Ricky Spaulding.

“Somebody had made a huge mess, again, in the gymnasium. Oh no! What to do? Who do we call when there’s a mess,” said Chris Glass, the high school principal said.

Everyone cheered Spaulding’s name. As usual, he came inside the building with a smile.

The principal then guided Spaulding to the garbage can that was in the center of the gymnasium.

When Spaulding took a look, he smiled.

It wasn’t trash! Spaulding was speechless when he saw that it was a bag full of money.

The bag had $1,900!

The students secretly raised the money for their beloved school maintenance personnel.

It was for Spaulding and his wife so that they could go to Italy and see their son, Jacob, and their new grandchild.

“Ricky is just such a great guy that it’s hard not to give to his cause,” Chris Glass told HLN News.

Indeed, the couple was so happy about it, and they said that they would use the money to visit their son and his family.
