For most teenagers, prom night is a special night. After all, it only happens once (or twice) in our lives, and we want to make the most of it by doing something memorable.

However, not everyone has a good memory of their prom.

There are those who experience not being asked for a date or even asked to dance. Unfortunately for those few, prom can be a horrible time in high school that they just want to get over with.

Then, there are prom stories like Jared Springer’s, who wasn’t allowed to go to prom.

It’s not that his parents didn’t allow him to go; they were all for a prom experience for their son. The school said he couldn’t go to prom because they have a policy that students who are not enrolled in any of the classes cannot attend any school functions.

While the policy may be correct, but it was an unfair ordeal for Jared’s case.

Jared was diagnosed with a brain tumor that resulted in impaired speech, mild cognitive deficit, and right-side paralysis. What kept Jared going through his treatments was the thought of attending his high school prom.

Frank Springer, Jared’s father, felt defeated upon knowing the school’s decision.

They did everything to get their son to attend his prom by offering to accompany him, but the school said parents are not allowed without tuberculosis and background checks. When the school finally gave them the green light, they required some medical waiver which was impossible to accomplish at such short notice.

The heartbroken father shared his disappointment on Facebook titled “Jared’s Journey Denied.”

In a now-deleted post, his father wrote:

“His heart was set on seeing his friends, listening to good music, and finally having a little fun. So much has been stolen from him over the last year and a half.”

People felt the disappointment in Jared and his family that they came up with “Prom for Jared.”

They set up a Brighten A Corner page calling for volunteers, donations, and all the resources they would need. They believe that if the school cannot give Jared the prom he deserved, the community will give it to him.

The entire community came together, not just those who went to Arroyo Grande High.

Students and parents from neighboring high schools helped make this dream come true. Soon enough, the organizers reached their goal, and they held a big party dubbed “Jared’s Prom.”

It was indeed a dream come true for Jared. Thanks to all the people who supported him.

You can see it in his face how happy he was to finally have the high school prom experience he longed for. Dressed in his suit and bright pink tie, Jared wheeled himself to his first and only prom experience.

The mood inside the function room was as festive as it should be.

Music, lights, food, and decors fit perfectly for the occasion. Jared was happy to take his girlfriend as his prom date as they danced the night away.
