School bus drivers are no doubt valuable members in our communities.

They take our children to school and then they return them home, making sure they are safe all the way. They often develop strong bonds with the kids that ride the buses, and they become eventually become some kind of friends.

But on top of everything, school bus drivers are people who just love children and love being around little ones all day.

That’s why they are often more sensitive than others when something that has to do with children pops up.

Like in the case of two school bus drivers in Michigan, who helped a little get reunited with his parents.

Dave Skinner, a driver for Kelloggsville Public Schools in the Grand Rapids area, was on the way driving the school bus, when a couple waved at him to pull over. It was obvious that they needed help.

The couple explained to Skinner what had happened.

“They screamed at me that somebody had stolen their car with their baby in it,” Skinner told WZZM.

The man realized this was an emergency and that he had to act fast. So, he called 911, and then alerted other bus drivers via radio.

Luckily, at the same time, another school bus driver was having an unusual encounter that would soon bring a happy ending to this story.

Sue Figueroa, who was driving another school bus at the time, saw a toddler standing alone on the side of the road.

“I just saw … a little baby around the corner standing with a blanket on,” Figueroa said.

The woman knew she couldn’t just pretend she hadn’t noticed the little boy. She had to stop and help him.

“I just immediately said I had to turn back there, you know,” Figueroa recalled.

The woman pulled over, jumped off the bus, and approached the little boy. She managed to take him on the bus with her and communicated with other drivers and the authorities to arrange where she could meet with the 2-year-old boy’s parents and give them back their missing baby.

Indeed, only a few minutes later, Figueroa met with the boy’s parents who were with Skinner, and she gave them back their little boy.

The parents were so relieved to have their baby back in their arms. They didn’t know how to thank the bus driver for her assistance.

It had been about four to six minutes that they didn’t know where their child was, and they were the most dramatic six minutes of their lives.

“Sue Figeroa, David Skinner and Kristin Nickeslon all did a great job getting this 2-year-old back with his parents.

Sue and David were the drivers involved and Kristin is the director of transportation and helped coordinate their efforts,” Kelloggsville Public Schools Superintendent James Alston said in a statement to ABC News.

As the bus drivers said, they should not be considered heroes, they are just very attentive when it comes to children, and they can act really quickly when they see something unusual.
