A flood victim in Australia was overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude upon receiving help from a teen boy who selflessly gave away his savings to help him.
In February, a devastating flood destroyed various properties, livelihoods, and homes in New South Wales far north including Chinderah near Tweed Heads. It is the exact place where Dylan Simpson’s rental home and car were, and unfortunately, these were also destroyed by the catastrophe.
From that moment on, Dylan fought to survive by crashing on his friends’ couches and by using a bicycle as his transportation to and from his work in a bowling club in Kingscliff. It was a rough way to live, but he had to bear with it to make ends meet after the flood.
950 kilometers away from his home is where 17-year-old Harry Ledger lives. He is a schoolboy who has been saving money for about two years so he can finally purchase his very first car.
He knew about the flood that devastated the Chinderah area, and through the coordination of a local volunteer, Harry learned about Dylan and his current situation.
The selfless teen knew what he had to do.
Harry decided to travel to Queensland and personally deliver his donation to Dylan who was then at his workplace.
The car that the teen has been saving money for in the past couple of years will now be handed to the flood victim who absolutely needed it.
When Dylan finally found out about it and met Harry, he was overwhelmed with deep gratitude and emotion for the teen’s selfless act. It was truly a blessing he did not expect, but something that he would forever be thankful for.
Harry handed the keys to an emotional Dylan and it was truly an inspiring moment that Natasha Shearer shared with the world.
Natasha, a mom of four, is a local volunteer who has spent the last two months helping out and assisting in the recovery efforts in the flood-affected regions across northern New South Wales, including Lismore, Ballina, and Woodburn.
She was also the person who coordinated for harry to meet Dylan, and she made sure that the special moment of selflessness was photographed so it can be shared to the world. harry’s selfless act was an amazing reminder that acts of kindness can help save a person’s life.
“Two days on, Dylan is still overcome with emotion,” she told Daily Mail Australia. “It was an amazing feeling to organize it after everything he’s been through and show that he hasn’t been forgotten.”
Natasha is a friend of Dale, Harry’s father, who also used to live in New South Wales. Harry’s family composed of his sister, Mary, and his parents, traveled from Kiama and went out of their way to help flood victims in the affected regions by helping clear up debris from streets.
In total, Harry’s family has donated $3,000 in cash and in kind.
“To some this may seem like a small thing but to Dylan, it is the biggest blessing and he is forever grateful,” Natasha shared.
After witnessing how much the flood had affected and destroyed the regions, Harry decided to donate his second-hand Nissan to a person who needed it more.
It was such a kind gesture that definitely would inspire others to be more giving and helpful.
There are still many victims who are in need of help and any type of donation would make a huge difference. Natasha has set up the Rebuilding NR 2022 Connecting and Supporting the Flooded Affected Facebook page where Australians who find it in their hearts to extend a helping hand can reach out and donate to the affected areas.
