Most grandparents and grandkids have a very special and unique relationship, something that begins at birth. Studies show there are multiple reasons for such closeness, including the fact that grandparents bring a sense of normalcy to their grandchildren’s lives.
Especially when grandparents live nearby, the grandkids become accustomed to seeing them a lot. Sometimes, they interact daily. Ultimately, they form an unbreakable bond that’s undeniably sweet.
Don’t leave
In a video that’s now garnered almost 1.4 million views, we get to see just how wonderful a relationship is between a grandpa and his grandson. When this was filmed, the boy, named Parker, was only 15 months old but he’d already developed a wonderful relationship with his grandpa.
The mother explains
Laura Matthew, the tot’s mom, said her son and her father were unusually close. In the video, the granddad tells the boy he has to leave. But that’s when the toddler gets upset. Laura added that he doesn’t act that way whenever anyone else leaves…just his favorite person…Grandpa.
Time for lunch
At the start of the video, you hear the granddad say, “I slept through lunch today…I have to get something to eat.” To most kids, that might not be a big deal. But immediately, this little boy knew what that meant.
His reaction
The boy lets out a squeal, wanting to make sure his grandpa and everyone else within ear shot knows he’s not happy. He doesn’t want his grandpa to go. As the man starts to rise from the couch, the tot tries to follow.
The video tells the story
Knowing what’s about to happen next, Laura tells her dad, “I’m going to video tape this to show Parker one day exactly his obsession with you.” Then the grandpa says, “Okay, I’m going to leave now.”
Just a few more minutes of play
You can tell it’s hard for the grandpa to leave. He spends a few extra minutes playing with his grandson, first with a light-up toy and then a game of Peek-a-Boo. Laura chimes in with, “Parker sure loves his grandpa to which her dad says, “And his grandpa sure loves Parker.”
Heading to the door
When it’s time for his grandpa to leave, Parker scurries off the couch and walks over to the door. But as his grandpa gets closer, the toddler wants to be picked up. Then it sinks in…the one person that he loves the most is really leaving.
Here come the waterworks
The grandpa hands Parker over to his dad, hoping that’ll help calm the situation. But the little boy immediately starts screaming and crying. He wants his grandpa to stay
A broken heart
Once his grandpa walks out of the house, the tot quickly climbs down from his dad’s lap and heads straight for the door. With an oval window to see through, Parker stands there, crying. This is so sad yet beautiful at the same time.
Trying to calm him down
As his mom says, “It’s okay Parker, he’ll be back,” the boy turns to look at her. But then he goes back to peering out the window and crying. All he wants is his grandpa. Even with his mom offering to play with him, the little boy refuses to leave the door.
Staying hopeful
Although his grandpa is now out of sight, Parker stands there hoping that just maybe, he’ll come back. While the full-blown crying stopped, you can still hear sad whimpers. While he didn’t return that day, we’re sure these two had many more special moments together.
