Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were a kid?
We all have dreams. Some kids want to be doctors, others want to be teachers, and some kids are born with a passion for music.
Sharon Ransom always knew that she loved playing drums.
When she was little, her parents decided to enroll her in piano lessons. Little Sharon hated it!
“I legitimately thought that it was an instrument that was meant to be thrown, and truthfully, every time my parents made me practice the keyboard, I would turn it to the drumset setting and would start playing it like a drumset,” Sharon said in her interview with Drummagazine.
Soon, her parents realized their daughter’s true passion and bought her a real drum set!
Living a dream
Sharon started playing drums and exploring different beats in elementary school, which continued through her high school years.
She now owns Ransom Drum Lab located in Woodstock. She also performs at weddings and shoots commercials. But along with her busy schedule, Sharon still works her dream job – to teach drums.
Aside from playing the drums herself, she is also a teacher by heart.
She loves teaching drum lessons, and it fills her heart with joy when she sees the improvement of her students.
Playing drums in a wedding dress
She was already living her dream as a drum player and teacher when she tied the knot with her husband, Eric.
To make their wedding day extra special, Sharon prepared something grand for her guests.
Sharon, along with her husband and two of their friends, performed live in their wedding reception. Of course, Sharon showed everyone how good she is with her drums.
She even had her dress altered so she could play her drums.
Everyone was speechless. This gorgeous bride played her drums with so much passion and enthusiasm that it even caught the attention of international producers!
International Women’s Month
Her musical career skyrocketed when a producer noticed her skills and decided to contact her. The producer was looking for female drummers that would be a part of their commercial for the 2020 International Women’s Day for Facebook.
“A Hollywood producer reached out to us (Drummergirls United, of which Ransom is a member) and asked if any girls were interested in doing a commercial and I emailed them back and sent them a video of me playing,” Sharon said to London Free Press.
When the producers saw her amazing skills, she was immediately cast to do the solo commercial.
According to her, the only setback that she had to work on was the “uncomfortable” blue dress that she had to wear.
If you are a drummer, then you would know that what you wear is very important. Her dress did look quite uncomfortable, but being the professional that she is, she was able to pull it off flawlessly!

Sharon was also featured in different magazines and interviews, where she shared her journey and hopes.
She also wants little girls who love playing drums to go for it!
Many kids admire her for her talent, so when asked what advice she could give to all those aspiring drummers, she simply replied:
“This might be simple, but the advice I would tell people is to have fun with the drums.”
