The historic wildfires in the California area will go down as one of the most destructive natural disasters in quite a long time. According to satellite images, over 422 square miles of surface area has been completely demolished by the fire. The Thomas Fire is expected to be fully contained in January and plenty of people were forced to evacuate and leave their homes behind, not knowing if they’d have a home to return to at all.
More than 8,000 firefighters in total have been active in the fight against the wildfires and they have been working around the clock to make sure the devastation would be contained as soon as possible.
Actor Rob Lowe’s home was also in the crosshairs of the California wildfires. The actor, mostly known for his roles in the television shows Parks and Recreation, Californication and Brothers & Sisters, was afraid that the fire would come too close and his family would be forced to evacuate.
He watched the weather reports closely these past few days, as he looked on and saw the Thomas Fire just getting worse and worse. Rob Lowe was waiting anxiously along with his wife and two sons, and the fire started getting dangerously close to their home.
You can see the whole situation getting worse as Rob posted regular updates on his Instagram account. He posted a picture of the threatening fire in the background and posted another picture later that day showing him volunteering with the fire department, helping out where he can.
“Helping earlier today. You do what you can, but when it’s time… you GO,” he posted on Instagram.
Because Rob and his family weren’t told to evacuate just yet, he helped out the firefighters for as long as he could.
Thanks to the brave efforts of the firefighters in the area, the fire could be contained locally.
Rob’s family and their neighbors didn’t have to evacuate and everyone in the area was safe and sound.
As a small ‘thank you’, Rob and his family wanted to do something special for the firefighters. They were invited over to their home for a lovely and tasty home-cooked meal. The firefighters were treated to delicious hamburgers and spaghetti.
“Thank you to all the crews from all over the country who stood tall and saved my town,” Rob Lowe wrote on his Instagram page.
As Rob Lowe said himself, these people are “brave, true heroes.”
