People always notice when other people do good.
Sometimes, people go on with their lives wondering if helping each other out is all for nothing – that it doesn’t make any remarkable changes in the community or the impact is not as apparent.
Four police officers found themselves in the same predicament, and their servers only wished that the police department didn’t post what they wrote on the back of their receipt.
The police officers went into their local Outback Steakhouse.
They must’ve been regulars in the establishment as manager Arline wood and server Zoe Rao recognized the team.
Wood has been working for the restaurant for 18 years at that time so she’s grown familiar with members of the community.
The police officers ate their meal thinking that it was just an ordinary dinner.
As police officers, it is within the nature of the job to shrug off danger once it passes and tab it in as “all in today’s work.”
This day was one of those days.
Unbeknownst to the team, Wood and Rao were cooking up something from behind the scenes.
They want to make the officers feel that the good they’ve been doing for their community was not going unnoticed.
When the police officers asked for the bill, they received a note instead.
On the top of the receipt were the words “Be safe!” then, the receipt listed down all of the food they ate only to be totaled a whopping $0.00.
The original bill was $67, but Wood and Rao took it upon themselves to pick up the tab to show their support for the police officers.
“Thank y’all for y’all’s service,” the receipt said at the bottom.
“Enjoy y’alls meal on us!”
The note was then signed “Arline and Zoe”.
The two only had nice things to say about the cops.
Rao said that they were the sweetest guys and that she enjoyed waiting for them.
You know what they say about being nice to the staff.
Meanwhile, Wood said that she knows they care so much about the community and everybody.
“They’re just great guys, our whole police force is great and these guys at night, I went to Zoe and I said, let’s take care of it,” Wood said.
In a Facebook post, the officers from the Slidell Police Department were shocked.
“Words can’t describe how this makes all of us feel. Thank you Ms. Arlene and Zoe for being so kind and showing your appreciation for law enforcement,” the department said in their post.
They also explained that the team gave a generous tip “due to ethics laws and Slidell PD policy” to cover the cost of the bill and maybe some more.
No matter the reason, though, it’s really the intention that counts.
The post has since become viral with over 3,000 shares and 14,000 reactions.
People in the comment section showed their appreciation for the police and others praised Rao and Wood for their generosity.
“Outback, take care of these ladies,” one comment said. “You are most fortunate to have employees of such class and character, who appreciate the public service of those who keep your community and your business safe and secure.”
