A couple was dining at a Frenchy’s Chicken restaurant in Houston when they overheard a conversation coming from the register. It was between the manager and a woman, who didn’t have any money to purchase food.
The diners were so blown away by the manager’s response that they decided to share what they witnessed online. It’s a story that’s gone viral.
Wednesday evenings are typically busy at Frenchy’s Chicken on Richmond Avenue. This one was no different.
Manager Ahmed Elmadhoun was helping serve hungry guests when two customers, in particular, caught his eye. He noticed a woman walk into the establishment with her three-year-old granddaughter, then take a place in one of the long lines.
Once the lady reached the front counter she had an unusual request. Instead of simply placing an order, she wanted to speak to Elmadhoun privately.
The woman’s story broke Elmadhoun’s heart.
In their conversation, Elmadhoun learned that the grandmother was hungry – yet, she didn’t have any money for food. She also didn’t have anything to feed her 10 grandchildren either, and her vehicle had run out of gas.
The reason she wanted to speak with Elmadhoun was to see if she could get food that evening – then come back the next day to pay for it (with tax money). In return, she offered her identification cards to help prove she’d be back.
Elmadhoun had a different idea.
According to the restaurant manager, it wasn’t a situation he typically ran into. He told KHOU 11:
“Definitely not something you hear every day … She was really going through a tough time. She was pretty embarrassed. I said, ‘Don’t. We all go through tough times.'”
Elmadhoun refused to take the woman’s ID cards. However, he still jumped into action, preparing a giant meal that she could take home to her family.
He filled a to-go bag with a variety of delicious items.
Although the grandmother didn’t have any money with her – it didn’t stop Elmadhoun from packing up a big box of chicken, sides, and even a sweet treat for the kids. He then informed the woman that the food was “on him.”
During his interview with KHOU 11, Elmadhoun recalled:
“She was so relieved. She had a smile on her face. She was in awe, couldn’t believe someone would do that.”
If the manager’s actions weren’t amazing enough, he told her she could come back if she ran into the same predicament again. He said, “We’re here for you.”
A couple of other diners witnessed the entire scene and were also touched by the manager’s kindness.
Customer Lowe Petties began her Facebook post saying, “God bless this man.” She then went into the story from their point of view. She explained:
“He bought her 25 pcs of chicken family sized fry and greens, he gave her bread drinks and cake with his own money. He told her you owe me nothing and if you get hungry tomorrow COME BACK. Then a patron of the establishment along with Andre Petties put gas in her car. LOOK AT GOD!”
Not only did her Facebook post go viral, but the inspiring story made headlines too.

Elmadhoun could have easily turned his back on the situation. However, he decided to act with his heart instead.
