As far as legendary bands go, Queen is one of the ultimate favorites.
There’s not a single person who doesn’t know at least some of the lines to “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and Queen’s famous 1985 Live Aid performance will go down in history as one of the best live performances to ever exist.
There’s so much Queen content out there, and, quite frankly, we’d never get bored of it. While it might have been more than 30 years since Queen’s last album, their music will live on forever.
As with most famous bands, many Queen songs have been parodied at one point or another.
Some parodies are funnier than others, but you’re going to want to stick around for this one- it’s hilarious.
Titled “If Freddie Mercury were Filipino”, the video was produced by YouTuber Mikey Bustos, who acted as director and wrote the lyrics for this unusual setup.
Jumping straight into the video, we see Mikey as Freddie.
He’s shining a torch on his face, singing the opening lyrics of “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Except these aren’t the opening lyrics that we’re all familiar with.
Instead, Mikey sings:
“This is Pinoy life, here in the Philippines
I use a flash light, cause there’s no electricity.”
If you squint a bit, Mikey actually looks a bit like Freddie. Although, to be fair, all you have to do is put on a fake mustache and a white vest.
The song changes to “Another One Bites The Dust”, and the camera shows Mikey grooving his way down the street.
He chooses this segment of the parody to sing about his childhood as a Filipino, including eating foods that were, according to his dad, some sort of Filipino badge of honor.
It turns out that there was one food that stuck with Mikey more than others, as he sings in the chorus:
“Balut is a fetal duck
The juices I love to suck,
And another one done and another one done,
Another one bites the duck…”
Rather you than us, Mikey.
The music moves onto another big Queen hit: “We Will Rock You”.
Of course, with this being a parody, you’ve never heard it like this before.
Mikey sings about washing his face with papaya soap, courting a girl called Mary Jane, and feeling Gwapo (handsome).
We’re back to “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the next segment of the parody.
Instead of killing a man, Mikey sings about killing a pig, and it quickly becomes obvious that this segment is all about food in the Philipines.
From lechon to paksiew, sisig, chicharon, buko, pinas, sinigag and ulam, if you’ve grown up in the Philippines, you’ll be nodding your head and chuckling throughout this entire segment.
Next up is “We Are The Champions”, and Mikey is in the kitchen, singing about cooking.
Again, this segment is dedicated to a particular food, pancit canton, and how easy it is to make. You’ve never seen anyone sing so lovingly about a plate of noodles.
If you haven’t watched this parody yet, do it! You’ll giggle throughout the whole thing.
