Anyone who has ever had a child knows that certain safety measures must be implemented as soon as they become old enough to move about on their own.

Corners get padded, outlets get covered, and stairs get blocked off.

Even with all those measures in place though, children can usually find a way to put themselves in some sort of risky situation.

For one 2-year-old Des Moines boy, that meant crawling over to a window and popping out the screen so he could look out and throw stuff out of the opening.

That’s what he was doing when he wanted to get a closer look outside and ended up falling right out of the window.

Luckily for him though, his neighbor just happened to be out walking her dog when she noticed the young boy.

Kyrie Jones, a woman who is 33 weeks along in her own pregnancy, was shocked when she saw the little boy had popped out the screen and was dropping his toys from the second-story window of his home.

Kyrie immediately ran to the front door of the house and pounded on it, calling out to the boys’ mother.

The boys’ mother didn’t answer the door after a while of Kyrie knocking, so she phoned the police as she went around to the window again.

This time, when she arrived underneath the opening, the boy had crawled his way out and was hanging onto the ledge, legs dangling below him.

Kyrie ran under the window and screamed for help at the top of her lungs.

She screamed, hoping the boys’ mother would be able to hear her through the open window.

Before long though, the baby lost his grip and fell from the second-story window right into Kyrie’s arms.

While she knows he must have knocked against her heavily pregnant belly, Kyrie says there was so much adrenaline in her body that she felt nothing.

She held the boy close and wrapped him up in her housecoat when she realized he wasn’t even wearing a diaper.

In a very short amount of time after catching the toddler, the police pulled up to the scene.

The police radio scanner said, “It looks like the baby fell out the window, but the caller caught the child.”

Kyrie held onto the baby as the police knocked on his front door, hoping to get some kind of a response from his mother.

Eventually, after minutes of knocking and yelling that they were the police, the mother finally came to the door.

Thankfully, the boy was not immediately returned to his inattentive mother as both the police and children’s aid had many questions for her.

As for Kyrie, she is just happy she was able to save the young boy.

“I’m just glad I was there at the right time,” she explained to KCCI News, as she wiped emotional tears from her eyes.

“I can’t imagine what it would have been like,” she continues, “to walk out a couple of minutes later and see a baby on the concrete.”
