A police officer in Georgia is going viral for stepping in to help a teenage boy do something that doesn’t come naturally — fix his tie.
Officer Flowers, of Kingsland, Georgia, was directing traffic in a parking lot when he spotted the teen trying fruitlessly to fix his tie. Flowers quickly stepped in and showed how it was done, chatting with him happily as he demonstrated the knot.
The teen was on his way to his high school graduation ceremony with a woman who appeared to be his mother.
It may have been a small moment, but it was caught on tape, getting hundreds of thousands of views from people all over the world.
“As a single mother raising a son, I really appreciate this,” wrote one commenter. “May this officer receive positive blessings as his gifted this young man with kindness.”
The most amazing part of all was that the moment that Flowers was done helping the boy he jumped right back into directing traffic.
In addition to being able to create a perfectly knotted tie, he’s apparently a skilled multitasker.
“That was awesome!!” wrote another social media commenter. “He saw something needed and did it. Thank you to the officer. I’m certain the graduate appreciated it, even tho he looked kind of embarrassed.” [sic]
He’s not the only cop who has recently attracted attention for being great with kids.
Back in February, a Virginia police officer went viral after being caught on camera playing with neighborhood children after concluding his call.
South Hill Police Cpl. Fleming responded to a call about a possible gas leak in the neighborhood on February 14.
After the officer and fire department ruled out the possibility of danger, Fleming was technically free to go. Instead, he joined the local kids who were playing on the sidewalk.
Video captured Fleming playing with dolls and even lying flat on his stomach on the pavement to color with sidewalk chalk. The sweet moment went viral after it was shared, prompting people all over the world to praise the kind officer.
But Iesha Roper-Boswell, the woman who captured the pictures and videos, says Fleming is known around her neighborhood for being a playmate and role model for the local kids.
He has children of his own and is also a foster parent. Fleming’s goal in the neighborhood is to give the kids a positive role model, especially one who’s a police officer.
He started visiting the neighborhood after Roper-Boswell told him the local children, including her daughter and niece, were frightened of police officers.
“So, when he came and played with them, I captured that moment, not because I thought it would go viral, but it was amazing that my niece didn’t break out into tears,” she said. “It’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children.”
Roper-Boswell said that Fleming’s actions have changed the lives of the kids, who enjoy playing and coloring with him whenever he has the chance to come by.
