“Angel in a baseball cap.” That’s how PJ Steele described Joey Herrera.
PJ and her sister were thankful for the 29-year-old pizza delivery guy because they wouldn’t know what would happen to their mom if it weren’t for his compassion and kindness.
They even thought of the worst if she was left on the ground.
90-year-old Annie Goshen was alone in their home in Tampa, Florida, when the incident happened.
She went out to her garden with scissors in one hand to cut some flowers.
That’s when she tripped on a nearby rock, fell, and hit herself on that same rock.
It was a horrific moment as she realized that she couldn’t get up by herself.
That’s when Joey passed by their street.
He was on his delivery route near Euclid and Thatcher streets when he saw Annie on the ground signaling to him, and he knew something was wrong.
He immediately stopped and went over to check how she was doing.
PJ shared the footage of their home camera showing how selfless Joey was.
He assisted Annie inside and made sure she was okay.
Then, he called 911 and never left her side until the paramedics arrived.
Joey held Annie’s hands and talked to her the whole time, so she wouldn’t get scared.
Annie might have faced a worse fate if it weren’t for the kind pizza delivery guy.
They considered this incident a miracle, especially since their house was on a dead-end street, and people rarely passed by.
Annie also has dementia which may have affected her judgment to get out and pick flowers.
The paramedics brought her to the hospital, where Annie stayed overnight.
She had bruises and a fracture but recovered well days after – all thanks to Joey.
After the incident, Annie only had one wish: to meet her angel in a baseball cap again and thank him personally.
Her wish was granted after they asked around and tracked him down.
It was a heartwarming reunion filmed by WFLA News.
Joey was given all the hugs and words of thanks from the family.
Once again, PJ reiterated how his being in the right place at the right time saved her mother.
Fate brought him to that route to save dear, old Annie.
Joey quickly brushed off all the praises and said he did what most people would do.
He told Inside Edition that he imagined it was his grandma that needed help; he would want a stranger to also show the same amount of kindness and compassion.
He added that what he did was something anybody in their right mind should do.
The family handed Joey a ‘thank you’ card and some gifts.
They gave him $350 and some gift cards to reward his good deeds.
His manager from Westshore Pizza also dropped by Annie’s home to meet with PJ and her mother and gave Joey a bonus.
Kindness goes a long way and comes back to you in multiple folds.
