The coronavirus pandemic caused many people to be stuck at home for days on end, unable to hit the gym and eating everything in sight. They jokingly referred to their additional poundage as “COVID weight.”

For those who love to cook and where food is their life and livelihood, like Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond, 52, it became quite easy to pack on the pounds.

When her clothes began fitting all too snuggly, Ree vowed to shed some weight.

“I can’t get away from food and I love to eat. Of course, it crept up on me through the years, especially during COVID.”

So Ree set off on a health journey and kept herself accountable by sharing videos and photos of her weight loss adventure on TikTok and Instagram.

How did she do it?

She didn’t pick a fad diet or trendy exercise regimen but stuck with what’s tried and true.

“Starting in January, I decided to get busy and lose some weight. No gimmicks at all. I just cut calories, exercised more, lifted a lot of weights. I look better but I feel so much better and that’s what really counts. I have a lot more energy.”

In a recent video shared on TikTok, Dee demonstrated just how much healthier she looks and feels. She has shed 38 pounds so far and loves not just looking good, but feeling good, too.
“Moving more and building muscle has been the key for me! I still love fries, though.”

Ree also wanted to show off her new shapely figure at her eldest child Alex’s May marriage to Mauricio Scott.

Wedding bells are ringing

Ree and her husband, Ladd, share daughters, Alex, 23, and Paige, 21, sons Bryce, 18, and Todd, 17, and foster son, Jamar, 18.
Naturally, Ree was given free rein for the wedding reception’s menu. Alex didn’t even taste the food, but trusted her mom, the ultimate foodie, implicitly.

According to Ree’s blog, the reception meal was catered by The Merc and the menu featured a spring field greens salad with tiny vegetables for the starter.

Amazing wedding reception menu

The edible star of the show was a steak and shrimp duet with sides like caramelized onion and bacon mac and cheese, charred veggies, and mashed potatoes.

“Ahhh, the food. It was pretty, too! Pretty delicious, that is. Tacos and so many other delights!”

Alex and Mauricio’s stunning 6-tier wedding cake seemed too perfect to even eat. The all-white frosted centerpiece was created by Amy Cakes in Oklahoma and feaured handmade edible lace that copied Alex’s Monique Lhuillier bridal gown.

Cake copied wedding gown

The cake was adorned with a cascading arrangement of flowers in the same hues of pink, blue, and white, incorporated throughout the ceremony and decor. The flavors alternated white and strawberry cake with Swiss meringue buttercream.

The mother of the bride donned a stunning blue gown by Jovani, which was a relief to everyone since she couldn’t figure out what she wanted to wear.

Flattering mother of the bride gown

“In recent months I’d ordered and rejected/returned about eight different dresses, winding up with one additional (non-Jovani) option. Until the wedding day, I still didn’t know which one I’d wear…but ended up going with the Jovani!”

You, too, can catch glimpses into the gorgeous wedding and see Ree’s flattering new healthy silhouette during The Pioneer Woman wedding special, which airs June 26 at 11 a.m. EST on both the Food Network and Discovery+.

To catch a glimpse of Ree’s fantastic figure, watch her in the video below. She’s still the same ol’ peppy person as before, she notes.
