Wildlife photographers have amazing jobs. Sure, sometimes they have to spend a long time sitting in one spot, waiting to see any animal. But other times, they have truly incredible, once-in-a-lifetime encounters.
That’s just what happened with a photographer in the Arctic. One day, the man had an incredible encounter with an Arctic fox!
Stefan Forster is no stranger to amazing nature, as his job involves him traveling to exotic locations in order to take the most beautiful shots.
He has been photographing nature as a full-time job since 2008 and travels around the world for seven months a year in order to get the best shots for his portfolio.
Stefan owns a YouTube channel where he shares all of his amazing shots, and he says that he is most interested in ‘rare and unique lighting moods, clouds, sunrises and sunsets and of course untouched landscapes.’
He is also a tour guide and teaches his customers all about the art of photography.
In January 2019, the 32-year-old photographer uploaded a video so breathtaking that it became an instant viral sensation, with over eight million views.
The minute-long clip shows a brave Arctic fox approaching the man and even sniffing one of his shoes!
Stefan seems to be in complete awe as he says:
“Look at this, look at how close it comes.”
The cheeky fox seems to be in the mood for playing, as he picks up a stick in his mouth and runs off with it.
But he doesn’t go too far, and a minute later curiosity has got the better of him and he’s sneaking up to Stefan again.
He doesn’t even seem to be put off by Stefan’s talking, as the photographer tells us he’s “never witnessed an Arctic fox coming that close,” before concluding, “absolutely phenomenal.”
The last clip shows the curious fox creeping up to the camera and having a little nibble on the lens. How adorable!
Stefan shared his video with the caption:
‘As a professional photographer and tourguide I’m traveling to Greenland frequently since 10 years. In this decade I’ve been hiking and kayaking hundreds of kilometers on the in search of the perfect photograph. I’ve seen thousands of icebergs and glaciers, whales and musk ox and of course wild polar fox, but never a white one.
But in September 2018 after a sunrise shot at the disco bay I’ve seen something pure white standing on the top of a small mountain and looking at me. A few seconds later the white thing began to move and disappeared behind the small mountain. So I took my camera with me and began running towards the mountain.’
‘After about 20 minutes I reached the top and of course the pure white fox vanished. So I walked further to the shoreline of Disko Bay. Then while climbing down to a gap in the rocks I saw the fox looking down to me just 2 meters over me. During the next 20min we did make friends and the distance became smaller. Then the unthinkable happened. The fox bit into my lens hood and stayed with me.’
This a truly incredible experience, and we’re so glad Stefan shared it with us. Nature is amazing.
