This Canadian Family did not expect the outpour of support.
People from across the country and abroad helped this boy after he lost his collection of hockey cards due to an incident with peers at his school.
Strangers by the hundreds helped him.
Wynston Martin, a 7-year-old member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, loves to collect Hockey cards and has been collecting them for a long time.
Grandma wanted to help.
The story went viral on Facebook after his grandmother, Carleen Denell Fosseneuve, posted a plea for help.
“Last week while he was waiting to get on the bus Wyston was bullied and two young men stole his hockey card collection he was carrying and ran off with them. He had been building his hockey card collection for years and is a true St. Louis Blues fan.”
While interviewed by CTV News, Carleen shared that her grandson was heartbroken when his collection was stolen.
“I am asking if anyone would like to donate a card or two, it would help Wynston rebuild his collection,” Carleen wrote. “The act of generosity and kindness would be so appreciated.”
People delivered.
The intention of the post was simply to make the kid feel better and to reach out to friends for help.
The response was quick
And it reached beyond their local community in Manitoba.
“We had some kids up in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, they were collecting cards for Wynston. We had messages from Vancouver. Some messages from the States in Chicago,” she mentioned. Wynston also said that “Kindness always wins.”
An early birthday present
Friends and family who also have been collecting cards for Wynston’s birthday gave them to him sooner in light of the recent event.
According to Global News, Carleen revealed that Wynston heard from a major hockey card producer who has offered to replace some of the stolen cards.
She added that a lot of people share a common joy of card collecting.
The immense support and kindness were overwhelming, she said.
Aside from the cards, the family also got a chance to go on a trip to Winnipeg to watch his favorite team, St. Louis Blues, play against the Jets.
Although his team lost 4-0 to the Winnipeg Jets, Wynston was in awe to watch the team play live and in person with his family at Canada Life Centre.
“This is amazing, the utter spirit of hockey, the love of the game,” she said referring to the support her grandson received since her post.
She was thankful for all the messages and love for Wynston. It was greatly appreciated.

A big shout out
Carleen thanked everyone who showed their love and support, and for standing with Wynston in his time of need.
“We now have a new hockey family from all across Canada and the USA,” she wrote.
“Card collection families, coaches, teams, and fans alike have embraced Wynston wholeheartedly. You’ve shared a card or two from your own private collection, Wow! Thank you for standing with Wynston. You’ve helped to rebuild his collection and more importantly rebuilt his love for card collecting and the belief that great people like YOU exist! We are so humbled and I extend my gratitude to you all for the love and support, Kindness always WYNS,” Carleen’s post continued.
