Dennis Brown is no stranger to adversity.

At the young age of 22, he was paralyzed by a gunman, forever changing the course of his life.

Fast forward to this fateful day, and Brown was behind the wheel of a rental car, equipped with hand controls to accommodate his needs.

“I had rented a car from Enterprise equipped with hand control. I have been in the car several times. It seemed like the car was about to give out,” he vividly recalled.

“I looked up. The front end was on fire.”

Just when it seemed like the universe had dealt him another cruel hand, a woman appeared as if out of nowhere.

Brown couldn’t be more straightforward about her impact: “The woman who pulled me out of the burning car is a true hero, risking her life to save mine.”

Her identity remains unknown, but her actions speak volumes.

In the heat of the moment—quite literally—Brown was frantically trying to get his wheelchair out of the car.

“The car is ablaze now. She is panicking. I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. This isn’t going to happen,’” he described.

But this woman, fueled by adrenaline and determination, made a life-altering decision.

Realizing that time was of the essence, she abandoned the complicated task of assembling the wheelchair.

Instead, she focused on the immediate need: getting Brown to safety.

“I’d like to appreciate her for her heroic act,” Brown gratefully acknowledged.

“She went into harm’s way to save me. Dragged me out. I’d like to thank her.”

Julia, Brown’s mother, was overwhelmed with emotion when she heard about the near tragedy.

She tried to find this elusive hero to shower her with thanks.

“I almost lost my child in this burning car,” she said, her voice tinged with relief and awe. “I cannot thank her enough. If she had not pulled him out, he would have burned in that car. She was his angel.”
