Every girl dreams of walking down the aisle.
Even when we were little, we wrapped a blanket around our bodies, pretending it was a wedding gown and a pillowcase for a veil.
We can think of it as an innocent kind of wishful thinking, and it made us all giddy, right?
As we grow older, we realize getting married is not that simple.
Relationships are complicated, and we learn that the hard
way. Still, when the right one comes along, we still picture that perfect moment.
Nothing can stop us from making that childhood dream come true.
This bride wanted that, too, but an accident almost crushed her dream.
Jennifer Darmon and Mike Belawetz’s love story started in 2006 when Mike frequented a bank where Jennifer worked as a bank teller.
He noticed her right away, started dating, and as the year rolled, they imagined marrying each other.
Until one day, the couple found themselves in a life-altering accident.
The two were on a road trip with a few friends when an oncoming car hit their van upfront.
It was a horrific sight, and judging from the damage, nothing good was ever coming out of that crash.
Mike worked as a paramedic, and he helped everyone out of the van.
All of them came out safe except for Jennifer. She was stuck inside because she couldn’t move, so Mike helped her.
He ran his hands down his spine and knew right away that something was wrong, and it was the one thing he feared.
“I couldn’t feel my legs. I went into hysterics. I was screaming and crying and not really knowing what was going on,” Jennifer told ABC News.
The doctors told her she wouldn’t be able to walk again, but Jennifer refused to give up.
She underwent numerous surgeries and physical therapy; each session would span three long hours three times a week.
That’s a lot to take, especially its toll on her emotional and mental health.
But Mike never left her side.
It might have been easier to walk away, but Mike knew in his heart that no accident could break them apart.
He was there in every therapy session, cheering Jennifer on every achievement towards her recovery and lending a shoulder when it was getting too much.
All that love led to Mike proposing to Jennifer because he couldn’t imagine not being with her.
On the other hand, Jennifer was more determined than ever to recover because she wanted to see herself walk down that aisle.
Session after session, she worked on strengthening her leg and improving one step at a time.
She sometimes wore a wedding going during those sessions as motivation.
Their special day finally came, and Jennifer did indeed walk down the aisle.
She wore a beautiful wedding dress and looked stunning despite having leg braces underneath it.
Her father and brother were at both sides, assisting her every stride.
It was an emotional moment for everyone in the room, especially Jennifer and Mike.
The two sealed their love with a kiss, and Mike carried his bride to their new life together.
