If you’re lucky enough to have had a friend over the decades, you probably have some adorable photos of you in your younger days. There’s nothing sweeter than seeing how you and your friends have grown up together, especially when there are multiple photos to “aww” over along the way!
Nobody exactly plans to make a friend for life, which is why these pictures in this slideshow are so special. Let’s celebrate friendships all over the world!
1. 19 years down the line
The thing that makes this set of photos so special is that the group of guys have mimicked the original twice over the years. We can see exactly how each of them have grown from boy to man, and it’s adorable. And if they really do still meet up today to drink soda and orange juice, that’s even better.
2. From school to graduation
These four friends started out as boisterous youngsters… and by the looks of things, come graduation, nothing much had changed! And there’s nothing quite like copying those questionable poses from the good old days. We hope they managed to stay close after going their separate ways beyond graduation.
3. Still loving the screen
Who can guess at what these three kids in the top photo were looking at? There weren’t many handheld tech pieces back then – though we can all tell for sure that, some 15 years later, they’re looking at a phone screen on their graduation day. Good on them for sticking together throughout the ups and downs of high school.
These little boys might put their game faces on when they’re playing on the pitch, but as soon as the game’s over, they’re back to being best mates again. If this isn’t proof that friendship is the ultimate winner of everything, we don’t know what is. Someone pass a tissue.
There’s nothing quite like a friendship where you can hug your mates and not feel awkward about it. These guys are still hugging it out, even though they’re no longer teenagers spending all their time together at school. You can tell there’s nothing ever coming between these two.
When you’re part of a group of mischievous little kids, getting covered in mud at a beach is clearly the best thing in the world. Though the urge to get that dirty often dissipates with adulthood, these guys needed to mark their 20 years of friendship in a memorable way. This might just be the most dedicated photo recreation we’ve seen so far.
You know when you were a teen and you thought it was cool to pull faces at the camera? Well, these three legends recreated a photo of them doing exactly that – and copied their original faces exactly. We reckon they’re a laugh to have around.
8. Friendship over the decades
Now, a 10-year friendship is pretty impressive, but this one knocks it out of the park – these guys have been besties for 59 years! How do we find a friend who wants to hang out for that long?! They need to share their secrets.
If there was ever a juxtaposition of children at school, it’s this. The little boy on the left is clearly wishing he could be anywhere else, while his mate on the right is making the best of the situation. We’re not surprised they’re still friends today – don’t they say that opposites attract? Every pessimistic child needs an optimistic friend.
10. Mom showing how it’s done
This person’s mom had a friendship of more than 50 years, and here are a couple of photos of their friendship evolution as proof! It’s a shame there aren’t any photos of them together today, but there must be at least 15 years between photo 1 and photo 2. Friendship goals!
Most of us have been lucky enough to meet a friend while on vacation as kids, but as soon as the trip is over, you generally never see them again. This girl was so desperate to be reunited with a friend she had for one day on a dinner cruise – and she genuinely managed to find her! Thank you, Twitter!
12. Friends despite differences
If these two kids are proof of anything, it’s that friendships grow in all scenarios. They’re clearly the best of friends despite their differences! It’s often what makes us unique that proves so interesting to another person – friendships would be boring if we were all identical clones.
13. Third grade to a wedding
When you make friends with someone as a kid, you never imagine that you could be attending their wedding in the future. But these guys are proof that it can happen! From third grade to their high school prom and finally to someone’s wedding, they’ve been through it all together.
14. Still sharing ice cream
Most of us can still remember those summer days from our childhood fairly well. It was always the best when mom called for us and rewarded us with a surprise ice cream – and even better if we had a friend to share the joy with! More than a decade later and these two girls are still hanging out together with ice cream.
15. Grown-up and still crazy
These girlfriends were typical cheeky toddlers back in the day – and just look at them grown up together! One’s graduating, the other’s a mom-to-be, but they’ve still got it in them to pull a silly face for the camera. They really have been through it all together.
16. Hangout pals for life
We all need a friend in life who’s so easy to hang with, nothing even needs to be said. The two of you can just sit in a comfortable silence, getting on with something that’s keeping you entertained right now. These friends are still chilling together 15 years down the line.
Keeping one friend over the years is special enough, but when you’re part of a long-lasting group of five friends, you’re even luckier. These guys look like they know how to have a good time, so it’s unsurprising they stuck together. The crazy thing is, aside from the improved camera quality and evolved dress sense, we wouldn’t say they’d aged at all!
18. Who said friends had to be human?
Introducing the best pal of them all: a dog. This little girls pup was there to watch over her while she slept as a newborn – and a few years later, he’s still there to enjoy her cuddles! If this doesn’t give you all the cuteness feels, nothing will.
Most of us have a photo album full of photos like this first one – cheesy snaps from elementary school with friends we know nothing about anymore. These guys must have had something special, because 9 years on and they still know each other. We want to see another pic 9 years later!
20. A friend to fight the fears
We wish there was a “before” version of this photo, because we’re convinced the legendary Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan are copying something we don’t have access to! They might be getting on in years, but the pair are growing old together – and isn’t that the best way to do it?
