Being a police officer, especially in today’s world, isn’t just dangerous but also stressful for their family. Every day, these brave men and women head out the front door of their homes never knowing if they’ll return. Sadly, that’s what happened to one police officer working in Central Florida.
Charles Kondek
Charles Kondek worked for the Tarpon Springs Police Department when in December 2014, he lost his life in the line of duty. As a husband, father, and friend to many, including the other officers at the department, this was devastating. This fallen officer impacted a lot of people’s lives.
Stepping up to the plate
Recently, a story was published about Charles’ daughter, Aleena, who was getting ready to go to her senior prom in 2016. With her father gone, Aleena’s mom planned a huge surprise. When she arrived at the high school, an entire group of officers her dad had worked with was standing on the steps waiting to serve as her escorts.
A second family
You’ve probably heard that people in law enforcement become like family. After all, not only do officers spend a great deal of time together on the job but they hang out during their free time, as well. This is true for the Kondek’s, especially the kids, including Aleena and her brother Andrew.
They did it again
Well, the same officers from the same Tarpon Springs Police Department did it again. But this time it involved both Aleena and her brother. Instead of being escorts at the prom, the officers showed up to show their support when Charles’ two kids graduated from high school.
A major milestone
Finishing high school is a major milestone. During this era, a lot of teens struggle to find their footing in life. Aleena Kondek is one lucky young woman because she’s had people guiding and mentoring her along the way, people her dad loved and trusted.
Nothing but success
Just as before, the officers stood and watched as Aleena received her diploma, then Andrew right behind her. As she made her way off the stage, they were again waiting. Every one of them was cheering and clapping, excited for what this young lady could accomplish in life.
It gets even better
Just as they did for Aleena, each officer was thrilled to see Andrew doing so well. As a matter of fact, he did something that would’ve made his dad proud. He graduated from the police academy to work with the same officers who attended his and Aleena’s high school graduation.
Fast forward four years later
Four years after graduating high school Aleena once again had a giant crowd of officers cheering her on as she graduated college. The officers have proven time and time again that they will always have her back. The Tarpon Springs Police Department issued a formal statement. In part, it read, “TSPD wishes Aleena the greatest success that her chosen career has to offer and we know she will rise to the occasion throughout her career in helping others in the community in which she will be serving.”
Two amazing young adults
Andrew is now serving as a police officer just like his father. As for Aleena, she’s a registered nurse. But while getting her Bachelor’s degree in Science from the University of Central Florida, she worked at the university’s police department.
A beautiful legacy
Charles Kondek was an amazing person. He left behind a loving wife and two kids who have overcome a lot. But part of their success comes from the support they’ve received from their dad’s colleagues.
