We’ve seen our fair share of viral challenges since the internet came around, from the deadly cinnamon challenge to the ice bucket challenge and the chubby bunny challenge.
Most challenges have some element of danger or unpleasantness that makes them pretty unappealing on the whole – so you have to wonder why so many people get involved.
But the latest challenge, known as “the Git Up challenge”, looks and sounds much more appealing.
It was invented by Blanco Brown, who decided to make a dancing tutorial for his song “The Git Up” last summer. If you don’t think you’ve seen this dance, you probably have done – it was everywhere at one point in 2019.
When Blanco created his tutorial, he never expected such a crazy reaction. The video was viewed 10 million times, and the Git Up challenge spread like wildfire across the world.
We can see why it’s proved so popular, though – it’s all about bringing people together, whether that’s friends, families or work colleagues. It’s about looking silly and having fun; nothing more than that.
We’ve seen numerous local authorities getting involved in the challenge, and today, we bring you one of the best.
The dance was performed by Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Yuba City Police Department, Sutter County Courts, and Sutter County Code Enforcement.
Dance battles amongst police are guaranteed entertainment, and this one is no exception. The police are hardly trained dancers, and they were certainly in this for the laughs.
Little did they know just how popular their take on the Git Up challenge will be!
The hilarious video, which racked up more than 1 million views, opens with a Yuba City police car and Sutter County Sheriff’s car are fighting over a parking spot. When staff emerge to see what’s going on, a dance-off begins.
The reason why this dance challenge tops all others is simple: there’s a dog involved!
Yep, that’s right – a police dog is in on the dancing action. Not to be biased, as the police officers have clearly put in hours of practice, but this adorable pup steals the show in our eyes.
The routine is simple to follow, with classic moves like the butterfly, the cowboy boogie, and the hoedown.
It’s up to you whether you choose to learn it with friends, which is a guaranteed laugh, or alone – which Blanco Brown points out in the track, “if you’re by yourself no worries.”
The police get a bit of a bad rap for being no fun, but in the case of this particular ensemble of officers, it’s certainly not true.
People took to the comments beneath the video to praise the police for showing their soft side.
One person wrote:
“Great job, my hats off to all and thank you for your Service.”
It’s thanks to videos like these that we know the truth about police officers – who, like teachers, doctors and big business owners, can seem a little serious on the outside, but are actually just like us at heart.
Just because their jobs involve making sure we’re all abiding by the laws, it doesn’t mean cops can’t have a bit of fun from time to time!
Check out the video below – but be warned, it’ll make you want to “Git Up” and dance too!
