A disability will never impede your dreams, especially if you get a good mentor.

Our society has this negative stereotype of persons with special needs as those who cannot function or are incapable of working as abled people. The lack of even a single bodily function seems to hinder some.

However, those with disabilities prove us wrong time and again with their inspirational stories.

We’ve heard many stories about people who did not let their disabilities hinder them from chasing their dreams. From the man with autism who opened his own coffee shop to this boy who wowed the judges with his Michael Jackson rendition.

Like them, this six-year-old from Duluth knows he can make things possible.

Harrison Humphries was born without arms, hips, fibulas, and femurs. Her mother, Tara, was told that her son wouldn’t be able to do anything like feed himself or even just walk. But her son’s spirit was stronger.

He learned how to use his feet as others would use their hands.

He brushes his teeth, picks up things, and plays using his feet, and that’s a fantastic feat at such a young age. Whenever you see this little man, he always has a smile on his face and is determined to become someone someday.

When asked why he said he wanted to help people be better. Now, that’s a profound answer from such a young mind. It turns out a Duluth police officer has the exact same reason for doing his job. That’s why he and little Harrison became friends.

Officer Rolf Seiferheld and Harrison met at an event at Downtown Duluth.

People saw the endearing moment as the veteran police officer talked to Harrison, who was sitting on the grass surrounded by his toy trucks. The police officer’s action touched Tara so much because he treated her son with much kindness and respect when most people don’t do the same.

That was the start of their friendship and mentorship.

The dynamic duo looks forward to seeing each other every week, as Officer Seiferheld spends time with Harrison and teaches him more about becoming a detective. The kind officer loved training the little guy because he was very eager to learn.

“I think this is a relationship that can continue to grow, a partnership, which is what a community should be,” she told 11 Alive.
