Unfortunately, some people who are entrusted with the lives of other people don’t always do the right thing. This includes doctors, nurses, and police officers, as well as various other professionals.

When we watch TV or other popular forms of mass media, we are inundated with negative images that seek to demonize people in these professions.

However, there is so much good in the world that shows us the beauty of humanity, as well as the sacrifice and good things people in those professions do. Let’s face it, police officers have gotten a bad rap in the past couple of years.

This may be because of the draconian and militaristic practices of some departments, however, not all police departments and police officers operate under such archaic means.

Just like with everything, there is good, bad, and in between. So, it’s nice to highlight the good once in a while.

That’s what Travis Van Norstran was going for when he snapped a photo that has now gone viral online.

He witnessed a police officer going above and beyond his job requirements and decided to share it with the world.

“So I stopped at Pilot on Cumberland Ave today on my way home and noticed a Knoxville Police Department officer pull up to the pump and open the door for a gentleman that was sitting in the cruiser on the passenger side and out he steps with a gas can,” Norstran wrote. “The officer then walks to the pump reaches for his wallet, swipes his debit card and proceeds to fill the gentleman’s gas can.”

It’s not a police officer’s job to drive people who run out of gas to the gas station. And it certainly isn’t their job to pay for their gas. But this officer did anyway.

That photo was shared online more than 1,580 times and got more than 13,000 likes.

“In a world of protest, hate, debate, racism, violence, and lack of respect for one another it’s nice to know that there are officers such as this one (wish I knew his name) that exemplify professionalism and what it means to protect and serve!” Norstran wrote. “Thank you for all that you do and thank you for being a blessing to a stranger.”

While lots of the negative things some officer do gets shown in the media over and over again, it’s really nice to see some of the positive things they do.
