Jose Moncayo was at the Utah County courthouse, dealing with a traffic ticket.

He had tried to find a babysitter for his two-year-old daughter, Abi, but with no luck.

Left with no other choice, he took Abi to the courthouse, where they patiently waited outside the courtroom.

As they waited, little Abi’s curiosity got the best of her.

The courthouse hallways became her playground.

She wandered, explored, and made the most of her surroundings, turning the entire building into her personal adventure zone.

But when it was time for Jose to face the court, a dilemma arose.

Abi couldn’t accompany him inside, and he was left wondering how to ensure her safety while he took care of his ticket.

Just when things seemed bleak, a hero in uniform appeared.

Officer Kevin Norris of the Orem Police Department noticed Jose’s predicament.

Having observed the father-daughter duo while waiting to give his testimony, he graciously offered to babysit Abi.

“I’ve got kids myself,” he later told 2News, adding, “I know what it is to have rambunctious kids, and it’s hard to take them anywhere.”

Officer Norris didn’t just watch over Abi; he made sure she had a fantastic time.

From guiding her around the building to ensuring she stayed hydrated, he went above and beyond.

The duo even enjoyed treats courtesy of other deputies in the courthouse.

What could’ve been a stressful situation for Abi turned into a delightful day.

As the day wore on and Abi’s energy began to wane, Officer Norris had another trick up his sleeve.

He played cartoons on his phone, and the two settled down, with Abi comfortably resting her head against him.

It was evident: the officer had won the little girl’s trust.

When Jose emerged from the courtroom, he was met with a heartwarming sight: his daughter, sound asleep in the arms of the kind officer.

Reflecting on the experience, Officer Norris said,

“We’re not just officers who are out there to arrest people. We’re out there to make our community a better place.”
