Nurses and doctors hardly get enough praise for all the lives they touch and the people they save, but not in this case.

This nurse who saved a man’s life in the middle of a baseball field while watching her son’s little league game has since gone viral.

She’s getting kudos all around the world.

Baseball. It’s America’s favorite pastime.

While it can be nerve-racking to watch a close game in the bottom of the 9th, nothing’s quite as nerve-racking as what happened on this baseball field in Murray City, Utah.

In this video posted by Inside Edition, nurse Dayna Topham jumps into action and saves a 57-year-old man who had just collapsed on the field while playing softball.

The man suffered a massive heart attack

57-year-old Darren Ewell was right in nurse Topham’s line of sight when he suffered a massive heart attack and dropped like a sack of potatoes.

That’s when she heard people yelling to call 911 and took off out of the stands.

Nurse Topham had been there watching her son’s little league game, still in her scrubs as she had just come from the hospital when it happened.

Nurse Topham immediately began CPR.

Without a second thought, she started chest compressions on Ewell’s lifeless body, unsure if she’d be able to save the 57-year-old.

In an interview with Inside Edition, Nurse Topham explains how scary the situation was.

She said:

“It was frightening. I don’t have my doctors, I don’t have my nurses, I don’t have oxygen, I don’t have medications, I had nothing.”

But help was on the way.

That’s when an officer arrived and took over for the tired nurse.

When Police Officer Brian Bybee arrived, he could tell Nurse Topham was exhausted so he immediately took over.

But without a full medical team in place, the outcome didn’t look good.

The situation was getting more and more dire with each passing second, and Nurse Topham was convinced that without more help, Ewell wasn’t going to make it.

An ambulance arrived just in time.

They were able to shock him back to life

Just when Nurse Topham thought there was no hope, paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator to shock Ewell’s heart back into rhythm.

It worked.

They rushed him to the hospital where he received four heart stints and fully recovered.

Thanks to this guardian angel, Ewell is alive and well and was able to give an interview with Inside Edition where he told them about the scary ordeal:

“The doctor told me that if I’d of had my heart attack at any other place, including possibly home, I’d be dead. But I had it right there, right in front of a nurse who had just barely arrived at the ball field and she saved my life.” Said Ewell.

A warm embrace
