Most of us would think that a house of worship would be a safe place. After all, it’s where people praise God and a place where all good things happen and are shared.

With the same thought, some may think that since it’s a safe place, it’s also an opportunity to steal valuable items inside.

This was the idea that drove two men to try to rob a Christian community center located in upstate New York.

The robber’s idea was to steal the copper pipes inside the community center, but they didn’t know that the center didn’t have any copper pipes.

When the CCTV was reviewed, two men wearing hoodies were seen putting up a ladder in the community center.

One robber climbed up, and the other walked away, possibly as a lookout.

Sister Mary Johnice was inside the building. As she was walking down the stairs, she started hearing noises and pounding.

The nun knew she had to investigate, so she went outside, even though it was cold, and opened the door. That’s when she saw the ladder.

She immediately knew what was going on.

Sister Mary looked up and there he saw the intruder. As she was going back inside, an idea struck her.

The 76-year-old brave nun went back outside, grabbed the ladder, gave it a few pushes and a kick, and down it went.

“I grabbed the ladder, gave it a kick and a push,” says Sister Mary Johnice told in her interview. “It’s heavy. It was heavy, but I just had strength at that moment.”

Indeed, the ladder looked so heavy as it came crashing down, trapping the thief on the roof.

The ladder was really heavy, as seen on the impact of the fall, but according to brave Sister Mary Johnice, she couldn’t believe it either. She just felt strong, and she was able to put that ladder down.

Of course, the thief felt scared and panicked.

With no way out, he jumps down and walks away, but Sister Mary Johnice didn’t stop there.

She made sure that she was able to give him a message, and she used her finger to point at him and asked him to leave.

“I used my finger, and I said, ‘Get away. Go. This is God’s place,’” recalled Sister Johnice.

Everything made sense, from realizing that there were noises, seeing the ladder, and having the strength to yank that ladder and delivering her message to the person who tried to steal.

In her closing remarks, Sister Mary Johnice said that everything happened for a reason and that she was on a mission from God.

“You go where God sends you and I was on a mission.”
