Every day when we go to school, we either take the bus or have our parents drop us off. Some are lucky enough to own their own car. However, most kids take the bus.

One day, this 6-year-old kid, got off the wrong bus stop.

Riding a bus is usually easy. We wait for the bus at the bus stop and got off it at the same location. Most kids are used to the daily commute that it was easy for them. However, that’s not the case for one child.

Colton Franklin is a 6-year-old boy at Postma Elementary school in Cypress, Texas.

It was his first day of in-person learning when the incident happened. Colton was an obedient boy, so he knew that he had to follow his parent’s instructions. One of them was to meet his older brother Gavin at the bus stop, where the pair would walk home together at around 4:30 p.m.

Gavin waited for Colton, but Colton never showed up at the designated spot.

Fear at the thought that his little brother might be missing, Gavin quickly called his mom.

“Gavin calls me and says, ‘Mom, Colton didn’t get off the bus.’ ,” Arlene Lightfoot-Franklin, Colton’s mother, said.

Arlene thought that maybe Gavin was late to the bus stop and the bus driver may have taken Colton back to the school. So, she contacted the school and they told her that Colton rode the bus. This is when she started to be alarmed.

“He didn’t get off the bus. And we talked to the bus driver, and she said he wasn’t on the bus,” she said. “She told me to go ahead and talk to transportation.”

Arlene and her husband reached out to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s transportation department repeatedly.

“Where is he? The school doesn’t know. The transportation doesn’t know,” Arlene said. “So we were just riding around, looking for him. I didn’t know where I was going. I just knew I would take the route to the school.”

Suddenly, she received a notification that the doorbell camera detected activity at her front door.

When they checked it, they saw a woman with Colton. The woman, identified as Kim, saw Colton running frantically down West road. She said that Colton looked like he was running for his life.

Luckily, Kim’s daughter saw the sticker with Colton’s address on his shirt.

They used the address to drive Colton towards his house. Driving around, Colton began to recognize things and told Kim which way to turn. Once they were at Colton’s home, they waited until his family came up.

When the family arrived, Arlene quickly ran to hug her son and Kim.

“There’s nothing that we can do to repay her,” Lightfoot-Franklin told KHOU. “She took the time and risked her family being exposed to a stranger. That just shows that there are people still out there and compassionate that care about one another. ”

The two mothers exchanged numbers and they even hoped to treat Kim for lunch.

“That night when I was saying a prayer, I couldn’t say anything but thank you, God,” the mom said. “It could have ended in such a different way for me and my family.”
