Allison Kimmey, mother of two, overheard her angry young daughter tell her brother, “Mama is fat!”

The kids were upset because she had told them that pool time was over and they had to head home, explained Allie on her Instagram post, which went viral with over 34K likes. In a calm and loving manner, Allison asked her kids to come upstairs to have a chat with her. Allie asked her daughter what she had said to her brother about her. “I said you were fat, mama, I’m sorry,” replied her apologetic daughter.

After you read Allie’s loving and solicitous response to her kids’ fat-shaming comments, you’ll want to applaud her by presenting her with some kind of “Mother of the Year” award.

“Let’s talk about it. The truth is, I am not fat. No one IS fat. It’s not something you can BE. But I do HAVE fat. We ALL have fat. It protects our muscles and our bones and keeps our bodies going by providing us energy,” explained Allie.

When Allie asked her kids if they have fat, they started a back-and-forth banter of who had more or less fat than the other.

Daughter: “Yes! I have some here on my tummy.”
Allie: “That’s right! So do I and so does your brother!”
Son: “I don’t have any fat, I’m the skinniest. I just have muscles.”
Allie: “Actually, every single person in the world has fat. But each of us has different amounts.”
Son: “Oh right! I have some to protect my big muscles! But you have more than me.”

Allie: “Yes, that’s true. Some people have a lot, and others don’t have very much. But that doesn’t mean that one person is better than the other, do you both understand?”

Allie took ten minutes to lovingly shut down her kids’ fat-shaming comments and explain to them that people’s WORTH, VALUE and IMPORTANCE is not based on the numbers that appear on a scale or embroidered on the tags of clothing products.

Kids are curious creatures and their brains will inevitably absorb all the positives and negatives that are portrayed by their surroundings and society. While Allie may not be able to control everything they learn from the outside, she is determined they understand that their WORTH does not depend on their body fat percentage. “It is our job to continue to be the loudest, most accepting, positive and CONSISTENT voice they hear,” Allie shared with Bored Panda.

Allie is a model, self-love advocate and a huge social media influencer who is determined to de-stigmatize the word “fat” and share her “Just Do You” motto with her kids and the world.

The self-love warrior has over 132K followers on her Instagram. Allie fights to break down society’s harsh and unrealistic standards of beauty and perfection by sharing one body positivity photo at a time. With each post, she bravely shares her powerful personal stories of how she has overcome her insecurities, in hopes to empower and inspire others to be proud of their bodies and who they are.

To sum up the one of many self-worth conversations Allie had (and will have) with her kids, she asked them if they both understood what she meant, “So can you repeat what I said?”

“Yes! I shouldn’t say someone is fat because you can’t be fat. But everyone HAS fat and it’s okay to have different fat,” the sibling duo replied.

At the end, they had asked if they could go back in the pool and their mama’s sassy response was a winky-faced “No.”
