It’s that voice. That iconic voice that once you hear it, you just know, it’s Morgan Freeman. He’s the man who’s brought to life so many unforgettable characters with memorable lines, all while starring in some of the best films made. 1. Gemini
Freeman was born on June 1 1937, which makes him a Gemini. They say that those born under this air sign are often extremely sociable and loves to party. Except Morgan likes to keep to himself as he makes sure his personal life stays private.
2. Morgan moved around a lot as a child
He was born in Memphis, Tennessee but the Freemans moved around a lot. Morgan had lived in Chicago, Nashville, and Tennessee, before settling in Greenwood, Mississippi.
3. Young Morgan was a businessman
As a kid, Morgan loved going to the movies. At the time, a movie ticket cost 12 cents. Morgan would find and sell milk, soda and beer bottles for a few cents which he used for paying tickets.
4. Morgan was a natural at acting – he just didn’t know it yet
Freeman’s first experience as an actor came about for misbehaving at school. His teachers decided he should take part in the school’s drama competition as a sort of punishment. Apparently, he was good!
5. He flew for the country
Morgan was offered a scholarship to study drama at the Jackson State University but instead, joined the US Air Force where he served from 1955 to 1959. He made his way to LA to pick back up with acting in the early ’60s.

Morgan Freeman’s first role in ‘A Man Called Adam’ was as a party guest in which he went uncredited. It was 21 years later when he would become famous.
7. ‘Driving Miss Daisy’
This was a movie that even Eddie Murphy wanted to star in. It was Freeman’s role that made the world take notice of his acting prowess. Plus, it’s a really good movie!
8. ‘The Shawshank Redemption’
The scene of Freeman pitching a baseball took nine hours to film. He continued pitching the entire time with no complaints. The next day, he showed up with his arm in a sling.
9. Morgan won an award 20 years later
In 2015 , Freeman was presented with the Best Vintage Performance by an Actor award for his role as Detective Somerset in ‘Se7en’, back in 1995. Go see it and you’ll understand why!

Morgan Freeman has been nominated for various awards an astounding 79 times and has won 61 times. He is that talented. It must be one massive cabinet in his house!

Morgan really played “God” as best as anyone could. He almost didn’t play the role though as Jack Nicholson was offered the role. Jack turned it down.

When he found out that honeybees were in rapid decline, Freeman turned his 124 acre ranch in Mississippi into a beekeeping sanctuary. He currently has 26 hives.
13. Morgan does not wear protective clothing with bees
Freeman believes that he resonates with his bees so he does not wear any protective clothing. His voice probably soothes those bees. It’s way better than honey.

He wrote a cookbook called ‘Morgan Freeman And Friends: Caribbean Cooking For A Cause’, to raise money for The Grenada Relief Fund. Morgan is a man of many talents!

Morgan studied French while he was at the University of California in Los Angeles. He can speak the language fluently (with that voice), even delivering a speech completely in French.

Together with some of his friends, Freeman opened a bar called Ground Zero in 2001. It’s a juke joint style club in Clarksdale, Mississippi. A place known as ground zero for the blues.
17. Morgan is a licensed pilot
Freeman flew for the US Air Force as a young man but he earned his private pilot’s license at the age of 65. It’s never too late, as this actor proved.

22. Morgan was in a car crash
Morgan Freeman broke his arm, left shoulder and elbow in 2008, even paralyzing the fingers on his left hand. He now has to wear a compression glove permanently.
23. From an accident to a golf record
That unfortunate car crash did not deter the actor from his love of golf. A year later, Morgan became the first American to record a par on the notoriously extreme 19th hole of the Legend Golf & Safari Resort with a one handed swing!
24. His voice makes money
Morgan Freeman’s calm, authoritative voice is a “must have” for documentary filmmakers. In 2005, Freeman narrated March of the Penguins. The Oscar-winning nature documentary that went on to earn more at the box office than all of the other nominees. Freeman recorded all the narration for the 80-minute documentary in one day.
25. It was ‘Shawshank’ that put his voice on the map
In what is perhaps one of the greatest films ever made, Morgan plays “Red”, and his voice narrates certain scenes in the film. Freeman himself said on Graham Norton’s show that it was the film that had people asking him to do more narrating roles.
