We all know organ donation is a gift one can offer society, but only a few people do actually become organ donors before they are faced with critical situations.

Becoming an organ donor is so easy and yet it seems to be a taboo issue for many, as well as a scary thought to even come to mind.

Today, there are so many people who need organ transplants urgently and the list only keeps growing, but there is a lack of organ donors and this only extends those sick people’s waiting period, if they ever do find a transplant in the luckiest of cases.

What is important to consider, is that by becoming an organ donor one has the potential to “save eight lives, save or improve as many as 60 lives and enhance the eyesight of two.” But, at the same time, living donors are also crucial since they can continue their lives with very little restrictions, while they can save multiple people by becoming liver (part of-) or kidney donors.

We cannot even begin to imagine what a great difference it makes for sick people waiting on the transplant list, but it is clear that their whole life changes and they are given the chance to live a healthy and in most cases long life.

Just like what happened with little Braylee, whose life completely changed when an organ donor was found just when her parents had almost lost all hope.

Amanda and Justin got married in 2014 and they soon started a family. When in 2016 their younger daughter, Braylee, was born they were over the moon. They knew they had brought to the world a healthy baby and they couldn’t be more thankful for it.

But before long, everything changed.

Braylee’s skin suddenly started turning yellowish only a few months after birth, and her parents were alarmed. So, they took her to the hospital and, after lots of tests doctors ran on her, it was determined that she had a rare liver disease called biliary atresia.

Her condition was serious and it was affecting and slowly damaging her liver, which meant it had to be fixed as soon as possible.

At first, they tried operating the little girl, but the surgery was not as successful as they expected, so Braylee’s condition continued being serious and her health deteriorating. Only a liver transplant could save her.

After they waited for some time, they realized it would be extremely difficult to find a liver donor, so her dad made a brave decision to help his little girl: he would donate part of his liver to her, whatever the consequences for him.

But, just when he was ready and determined to take the step for his little daughter to be healthy again, an unexpected miracle happened. They found a liver from a deceased organ donor and the doctors were able to realize the surgery.

Eventually, Braylee was operated and the surgery was successful, so now she’s a happy and healthy toddler who won’t stop surprising her parents with her amazing personality!
