Looking after children is a huge responsibility, and try as we might, it just isn’t possible to be the perfect parent at all times.

Especially when you’re juggling looking after more than one child at the same time, it’s incredibly easy for things to slip your mind.

Moms are superheroes- but sometimes, even superheroes have their off days.

When one mom from Alton, St Louis, was unloading her groceries into her far outside Schnucks, the unthinkable happened.

As she concentrated on buckling one of her child’s seatbelts in the car, the shopping cart which her other child was still sitting in began to roll away from her.

Unbeknownst to the mom, the cart was picking up speed- and heading for traffic.

The situation could have ended very badly, if it hadn’t have been for Schnucks employee 24 -year-old Benjamin Mazur.

Benjamin, who is in charge of sorting the carts, was out in the parking lot when he spotted the cart hurtling towards him.

“All of a sudden this cart that had a baby in it was rolling down the hill,” He told FOX 2 St. Louis. “So I stopped what I was doing, jumped into action, and saved the baby.”

The local hero was able to reach the cart in time, preventing what could have been a very nasty accident.

Although we’re given no further information about the mom, we’re sure that she was incredibly grateful that Benjamin had been able to step in and help her baby.

This moment will probably play on her mind for a long time!

Benjamin was honored by Mayor Brant Walker for his amazing heroism, surprising him with a proclamation naming May 5th as Ben Mazur day in the city of Alton.

As this day was also coincidentally Ben’s birthday, he was especially chuffed with the proclamation.

Apparently, Ben, who has autism, had dreamed of working at Schnucks for a long time. With a little help from Challenge Unlimited, a company that helps people with disabilities to get jobs, he was finally able to secure his dream job.

“Schnucks was actually his dream job, so it was a big deal when he got hired there,” Jiuana Evans, an employee at Challenge Unlimited said.

Speaking about his heroic actions, Juiana added, “I wasn’t surprised, because I feel like it’s Ben- but it just made me feel so good. He’s outstanding, and I know that he’s going to continue to do great things.”

A group of Ben’s colleagues, family and friends showed up for his proclamation, proving just how popular he is.

After he received his special award from the mayor, the whole group sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ben, who couldn’t keep the proud smile off his face.

“Any time you find someone that’s put in as much work and time and effort as Ben has done, to go through Challenge Unlimited, to being enrolled at the community college to working at Schnucks- he’s just a fantastic individual and it’s an honor and a pleasure to honor someone like Ben on his birthday of all days,” Mayor Brant Walker said.
