No parent wants to sound like a broken record. But when it comes to getting kids to do their chores, homework, etc, I guess sometimes we do!

A common thing we repeatedly tell our kids is to clean their rooms.

Yet, regardless of how nice you say it – not all of them jump right on it. This can be especially frustrating when they’re teenagers, since the rooms can be even more disgusting, and the battles can be even more tiresome.

Alice Velásquez knows what it’s like to be fed up with a teenager’s messy bedroom. In fact, she had TWO teen girls contributing to the clutter.

One day, Alice came up with a creative punishment for her teens, as a way to teach them a lesson about not cleaning their room.

Some parents think her idea is absolutely brilliant.

It began with some trash bags.

The Indiana mom went into her daughters’ room and started filling up the bags with all their stuff. Now, she didn’t nicely separate all their belongings into categories like clean clothes, laundry, shoes, and school items. Nope, everything got lumped together.

That’s only the beginning of the punishment that’s gone viral.

Alice then stacked up the garbage bags and waited for her daughters to come home from school. The plan wasn’t that they could just have their stuff back though. They’d actually have to buy it back, at $25 a bag!

Being that all of their belongings were mixed up just added to the punishment. So, when the girls bought a bag they would have no clue what was inside. Perhaps they’d find the computer charger or band music they were looking for – or maybe it would be a bunch of smelly clothes.

There were other rules too.

According to Alice, her daughters weren’t able to use any money they had already saved up to purchase the trash bags. The bags could only be bought back with cash they’d have to earn through chores. Checkmate.

Needless to say, the teens did not find the punishment as amusing as Alice did.

The mom decided to snap a few photos of the trash bag pile and share them on Facebook. She wrote:

“What do you do when you are DONE telling your teenage daughters to stop letting their room look like homeless people live there? You put everything (YES EVERYTHING) into plastic bags and you sell it back to them for $25 a bag (and they have to earn the money doing chores).”

Alice continued:

“The best part? The bags were collected as they were found in the room- random! So their $25 could buy a bag of dirty clothes, it could buy a bag of trash or it could buy their soccer gear. #MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavor”

What do you do when you are DONE telling your teenage daughters to stop letting their room look like homeless people…

The mom believed just her friends and family would see her post, but it instead went viral.

Many parents around the world thought Alice’s punishment was great (and pretty funny too). She received positive comments on Facebook like:

“😂😂😂😂😂. Is it wrong of me to laugh this hard at your solution??? Genius!!”

Yet, not everyone agreed with it. The following comment was left on YouTube:

“This is just cruel.”
