Christopher followed a dog into the woods and didn’t come back.

Christopher’s mother, Araceli Nuñez, and Christopher’s grandmother were unloading supplies for their food truck when Christopher followed a dog into the woods around 1 p.m. on October 6. The dog was seen coming out of the woods but Christopher never appeared. Araceli told the police that in a matter of 2 minutes her son had disappeared and she immediately ran into the woods to find him.

A massive four-day search ensues.

Dozens of volunteers along with multiple law enforcement agencies scoured the area by ground, air, and water. The search went on day and night until a nearby landowner joined the search on Saturday and found Christopher alive but extremely dehydrated.

A concerned neighbor joins the search just in time.

“A citizen was walking his property and heard a whimper maybe a cry..saw the little boy took him in his arms…called in, we responded with the mother and reunited them. He was in the right place at the right time. I think he (Christopher) had a guardian angel standing over him the entire time.” – Sheriff Don Sowell

A mother’s prayers are answered.

Nuñez spoke to reporters after returning home from the hospital with her son. She held her son in her arms as she expressed her gratitude to community volunteers and the first responders.

“I cannot put into words what I felt when I saw my son again and held him in my arms. It was incredible. I just wanted to grab him and hug him…This is an example that God exists, that God is with us.” – Araceli Nuñez

A neighbor saw Christopher chase the dog into the woods.

In addition to the landowner who found the boy, the sheriff’s department is praising another neighbor for pointing search and rescue in the right direction. Christopher’s mother was so appreciative of the community support. “Thanks to these angels, our law enforcement officers, and volunteers. I have no means to pay you, but God will pay you back someday,” – Araceli Nuñez

A community came together for Christopher and his family.

Grimes County Constable, Blake Jarvis, knew how important finding Christopher was to his community. “We really put our heart and soul that he was out in these woods and it’s heartwrenching to know that if a child is out there the urgency to find him really pulls on everybody’s heartstrings.” – Blake Jarvis, Constable Precinct 2 Grimes County Texas.

“It could happen to any parent.” – Christopher’s mother

Every parent of a young child knows how quickly they can get away from you. Nuñez was asked by reporters if she would keep a better eye on her son in the future. “I know I am a good mother. (He disappeared) in less than two minutes. It can happen to any parent.”
