Encouraging our children to take up sports is very important for their psychological and physical development.
When a child or teenager plays sports, they learn how to lose, they make friendships that last a lifetime, let out their energy and thus avoid bad habits. Also, they are taught discipline, dedication, and persistence, and they develop self-esteem.
Physically, sports help children keep a healthy weight, while they build a healthy heart and develop strong bones.
And, while doing sports is so beneficial for children, playing with their parents makes it even better. This way, children build a stronger bond with their parents as they spend quality time together. They have the opportunity to release their energy in a positive way and, at the same time, parents become a good role model for their children by showing them that they try to keep fit.
An Ohio family does just that: the couple often shoots hoops with their boy in their backyard, which is something admirable.
One FedEx driver who passes by their neighborhood realized that the family enjoy spending time this way and wanted to surprise them with a gift.
A few days ago, Coledo Wheeler posted on Facebook about the driver’s act of generosity and kindness, and she melted the hearts of her online friends.
As she explained in her post, Wheeler and her partner, Dan, returned from work and they didn’t even realize their lousy hoop had been replaced by a brand new one.
Later on, as they walked down the porch, they noticed the hoop that was there wasn’t their regular one. The old one was in rough shape, although still usable. But the one that was in front of them was a new one, and it came with a ball and an instruction manual for the hoop.
Wheeler was shocked and she immediately tried to figure out who had placed it there. It was not difficult to find out that the mysterious sender was no other than Aubrey, their local FedEx driver.
Aubrey had left a note for them, in which she explained that she found wonderful the fact that Dan and Coledo shot hoops with teenage Eli, and she wanted them to have the best hoop.
“Just wanted you and your son to have the best hoop that’ll grow with him, and all his friends,” Aubrey wrote in a note for the family. “It’s wonderful that you guys shoot hoops with him.”
Coledo at first didn’t know who it was that bought the gift for them, but when she read the notes she immediately knew Aubrey was the driver who delivered in their area and had often seen Eli shoot hoops with his friends.
As she wrote in an update on the post, a couple of days later, she came home to sandbags to put in the base. It was apparently one more gift from Aubrey, and Wheeler couldn’t be more grateful for it.
She now can’t wait to meet the generous driver again and thank her for her kindness.
The Facebook community loved the woman’s deed and wrote comments of praise for her.
“What a super nice act of kindness!!! Thank you Fed Ex driver Aubrey!!!”
Such stories remind us that there is still good in people and it also restores our faith in humanity.
