Let’s face it, we all need a good night’s rest.
But for one mom it was on another level – as her family had experienced a frustrating flooding issue – which forced them out of their home and into a hotel.
After a long day, the exhausted mom, Randi Jo Amt, just wanted her family to have a peaceful night.
The tranquility Randi Jo so desperately needed was disrupted by a group of noisy teenagers in the hotel hallway.
While many would have reacted with immediate anger, Randi Jo chose a different path.
She understood the importance of compassion and wanted to explain her family’s situation to the teens, hoping they would understand and empathize.
Randi Jo decided to wait to have the conversation with the high schoolers.
The next morning, Randi Jo discovered that these teenagers were members of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) from Kansas, in Indiana for a convention.
Eventually, Randi Jo found a chance to talk to the teens.
On Friday night, seizing the opportunity presented by the slightly ajar doors of the teens’ rooms, Randi Jo approached them.
She shared her family’s plight, explaining how their house had been damaged by water and how crucial rest was for her children.
The response she received from one of the teenagers was empathetic and apologetic, acknowledging the hardship Randi Jo and her family were enduring.
In a Facebook post, Randi Jo wrote:
“I told them that we wanted them to have their fun and we would appreciate their respect to let our kids get good rest. The young man who answered the door told me that he was very sorry about what we are going through.”
But that wasn’t the end of it.
Later, Randi Jo was taken aback by a heartwarming gesture from the teens.
She found a note slipped under her door, accompanied by $40.
The note read, “We are more than sorry for waking you and your family up the past few nights. We hope everything goes well with your house.”
This act of kindness deeply moved the Amt family.
Overwhelmed by the teenagers’ thoughtful gesture, Randi Jo shared the story on Facebook, where it quickly gained widespread attention.
She wrote:
“In a world where some people sit behind screens and become angry on social media, this young man restored my faith that the next generation can make eye contact and show compassion to the person right in front of him … They set an excellent example for my children and their parents should be more than proud.”
The story’s viral spread amazed the youngsters involved.
One of them reflected on their decision, sharing with KSNW,
“I just thought we could do something for them that I think could change their day, brighten up their day a little bit.”
Inspired by the teenagers’ kindness, the Amts decided to pay it forward.
They used the money to help the homeless, further spreading the ripple of kindness initiated by the FFA members.
