A life-changing moment occurred for Amy, a 26-year-old deaf mother.

Amy and her doctor were testing implants, and after a couple of minutes, she started hearing sounds.

“Hi Mom!” was the first words she heard from her 6-year-old-son, Blake.

A few minutes into the video, her son has started to say, “Hi mom” repetitively, until Amy finally heard his voice.

The video, who was uploaded by Amy’s aunt Catherine Arnold, has the following caption: “takes a few minutes but worth the experience.” For Amy, it was probably the most beautiful experience of her life. She had been waiting to hear her parents’ and children’s voices her entire life, so a couple of minutes waiting at the doctor’s office were totally worth it.

Arnold wrote the following statement in the video’s description:

“Our niece has been deaf since she was born. She has never heard the sound of her parents voice or her 6 year old son, Blake. Every day for the next several months she will learn how sound works and where it comes from.”

In the video, Amy was asked to explain what she was hearing.

The woman, who was in tears after this incredible experience, explained that she could not really describe the sound but that it was totally different from what she had heard with her hearing aid. She also said that it was much clearer than what she had heard through her hearing aid.

Another video of Amy shows her hearing her sister for the first time, following a very emotional moment where she breaks down in tears as she recognizes that the voice is her sister’s Emily. Her sister Emily, who lives in Atlanta, used Facetime on her iPhone to contact her sister, who was located in Forth Worth. Both their reactions are very touching, and the experience will be cherished by the entire family forever.

Amy’s parents were incredibly touched.

They also posted a couple of videos of Amy as they accompanied her at the audiologist. “Our daughter Amy was born with a sensorineural bilateral hearing loss in 1986,” they wrote in another video. “Today on Aug 31st, 2012, 26 years later she was able to hear for the first time. A blessed event and a beautiful moment in time.”

Later on, Arnold added:

“thank you to everyone that appreciates and feels what a beautiful time this was and continues to be for Amy and our families. She is continuing her hard work of speech and sound therapy to distinguish what sound is. Her pronunciation has improved vastly and she can hear words and especially music! Naturally, after a lifetime of lip reading and signing, it is still necessary for her to rely on that skill to have conversation in a group. Every day is new and sometimes an exhausting experience. She loves the challenge to improve yet more and she is a joy to be around. By the way, Amy has a high school diploma and college degree! This girl never let anything get in her way to be her best!”

All of the videos uploaded by Amy’s parents as well as by her aunt have received an incredible amount of support. One video has almost 5 million views and over 7,000 comments.

“I cried. this is magical to watch! I can’t imagine how Amy and her family felt,” said one person.

“Why do I feel like crying with her? :’) I’m so happy for her!!,” said another.
