Mom hauling grocery cart & sick baby nearly cries when man behind refuses to take ‘no’ for an answer
She'll never forget the man.

It’s the little things that count, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. One mom found this out for herself as she was quickly putting her grocery items on the conveyor belt. A man, somewhere around the age of 60, was waiting in line behind her. He noticed her struggling and said she probably needed another cart.

Trying to get necessary items

One mom knew her kids would be out of school until at least April, so, she needed essentials like toilet paper to keep the household running. While she didn’t need 18 packages, she certainly wanted at least one. At Walmart, some of the aisles were closed, and the patrons were pushy. Sneaking into one of the closed aisles, she grabbed paper towels, stuffing them into her already overflowing cart.

Not only did she have a full cart but also a sick baby

As the cashier rang up her purchases and put them in bags, the mom had to start placing them on the floor. She hadn’t even finished unloading her stuffed cart. She dreaded going out in the pouring rain. How could she get everything to the car without getting soaked and deal with a fussy child?

An astonishing act of kindness

This mom knew she’d need another cart, as well as someone to help her get it out. And then, just as she was starting to panic, a man appeared behind her. He quoted part of 1 John 4:4, “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.” Tossing corn dogs on the conveyor belt, the mom agreed with the man by saying, “Amen.”

He was a godsend

The man was only buying one t-shirt. That’s when he said it looked like the mom would need more room and nodded to his grocery cart. She described the moment as being like “manna straight from Heaven.” But if that wasn’t enough, he also volunteered to push it out to her car.

He wouldn’t take “no” for an answer

He told her she shouldn’t even bother saying no because he didn’t want to be robbed of his blessing. This mom wanted to cry on the spot. She desperately needed a second cart. But she also needed someone to push it. Although she admits to having a bad attitude the entire morning, she said the Lord provided what she needed.

Returning the gesture

After paying for all her purchases, she told the man she was paying for his t-shirt, too. He insisted she didn’t need to do that. But she used his same words, telling him not to rob her of her blessing. She then made a mad dash for her car through the pouring rain with the man following, pushing the second cart. She strapped her fussy baby in the car seat while he loaded her groceries inside.

A true act of compassion

Every square inch of the cargo space was filled with food, including ice cream and cantaloupe. The man said he believed that everyone was called to be God’s disciples. By helping her out, he was just doing his part.

As he completed his act of kindness, they chatted about their common belief in the Lord and His goodness. Right before he walked away, he told the mom he’d see her again. If not, he said, they’d meet in Heaven.
