Rebecca Roberts was already a mother of a 14-year-old when she and her husband decided to try to have a new baby.

After a year of trying to conceive, Roberts discussed her options with her OB and decided that her best bet would be to take some medication that enhances ovulation.

Only a while later, she found out that she was pregnant. She and her husband couldn’t be happier, and they already started planning their new life with the fourth member of the Roberts family.

But life had other plans for them. When Roberts was at her third scan, the doctor suddenly stopped. Rebecca was confused and she thought that something was wrong with her pregnancy, but she couldn’t have been more wrong.

The doctor had just found a second baby. She was actually expecting twins.

How could that be possible? Did they miss a second heartbeat during the first couple of scans?

Not really. The second baby was actually conceived three weeks later than her twin. This is extremely rare, and it is mostly found in women who have gone through IVF.

When a woman gets pregnant while she’s already pregnant, this is called “superfetation” and that’s exactly why Noah and Rosalie are characterized as “super twins”.

Doctors believe that Rebecca continued to have ovulation after she got pregnant with the first baby because of the medication she had been taking.

After a tough pregnancy (at the time the UK was in lockdown and Rebecca had to attend all the doctor’s appointments without her husband), the twins were finally born.

At 33 weeks, the mom had to be induced because the surprise baby, who was 30 weeks at the time, had stopped growing properly.

The twins were born through c-section and they were instantly separated. Noah spent time in the NICU, while Rosalie had to be taken to a special hospital, where she stayed for 95 days.

Those months were the hardest for Rebecca and her husband.

β€œIt broke my heart that they were separated. It was horrible,” Roberts told TODAY. β€œI remember holding both of them at the same time when they were reunited and thinking, β€˜This is a milestone in itself.”

Since the babies were taken home, they have grown a lot and they have developed a special bond, just like twins are expected to do. They never stop surprising their mom, whose heart melts every time she looks at them.

β€œThey have such a special bond. It’s not that they just lay together β€” they hold hands. They’ll reach out and touch each others faces,” Roberts said. β€œRosalie was meant to be.”

Today, the family has grown by one member since in January this year Rebecca had another baby boy.

The family of six is now happy and enjoying every moment together.
